Ticketmaster sounds like Ticketdisaster and ought to be illegal. Also the business is different then 20 years ago when Roxy toured to support Avalon. I for one is sorry to read about concert hassles for one of my favorite groups. It's like when Sixpence none the richer covers Crowded House's Don't dream it's over ... We've heard it all before but the next time is always the best time. Like some I favored the sound of Jones Beach and the "tightness" of Radio City. This was my first two RM shows; couldn't go in 2001 due to work conflicts. I was able to shoot some decent digital pics from 1st row at Jones Beach and 3rd row at Radio City (about 40 good ones total; 1600x1200 resolution). Some need Photoshop work; I will have them ready tomorrow night. Most favor Mackay and the girls due to our seating. I also took some of the backdrops (with and without the "stars") as well as Radio City marquee listing "Roxy Music." If interested email me with your preferred email address. I will send send them out in 3 or 4 emails as attachements as I get requests. Please email your requests to my better email address: jjones@woh.rr.com I've missed many of the recent BF tour CDs; if you have them for "trade" for these pics - fine, if not, no big deal. For your pleasure.... Both shows were good, but nothing spectacular. More of the same. Jones Beach was half empty. The Mexican food stand was closed - they probably figured that it wouldn't be a money-making night. The sound wasn't good at Radio City but the speakers were right above me. I saw Sigur Ros there earlier this year and sat 12th row center and the sound was great then. Oh well. A few of us waited afterwards. I was tempted to leave but after a certain point, you wonder if you should since you already waited for so long. I waited. Andy came out. Bryan came out. I got his autograph again. I found Mark who had his camera with him and asked him to take a picture of Bryan and me. Mark's camera wouldn't go off at first but thankfully Bryan was patient and continued to pose. Mark showed me the pic afterwards and Bryan has his sour lemon face. I departed after that. Richard helped me to hail a cab - thanks and glad you made it back to the stage door in time!!! My outfits for both nights didn't go as planned. I ended up not wearing what I thought I was going to wear. My boyfriend admitted that he didn't like my top choice for the Jones Beach show - thought the dress looked funny. I chose another one. It turned out that the dress I wanted to wear to Radio City was in need of alterations. Again, I chose another one that had already been altered thank goodness. I had never worn it before that evening so at least I got the chance to wear it. That's what I get for not planning ahead of time but it all worked out. Now I can focus on my trip to Southern California in late August. Woo hoo! M (Yes, Lottie, just M!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There was a young lady called M Whose real name was *ahem* *ahem* "The thing is," she said, "I'd rather be dead" "Than let out the truth just for *them*" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Jul 2003 23:27:24 EDT From: ByrneHead1@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Chicago question I'll be at the Chicago show and was wondering if anyone familiar with the Tweeter Center knows where one should go to wait for an autograph from the band...if such a thing is even worth trying (will Roxy grace us with their presence for a signature?) Last minute plans were ditched and invited friends were unable to make it,so yet again I spent from 8-9 pm doing my finest impression of Stan Flashman on vacation..........Who needs a ticket then?.............Anyone need ONE? I could hardly give away front row Wembley tickets, and Radio City was to prove no different. So I decided to eat the loss and get inside to wash away my troubles.Yeah,Donald would be proud.Radio City is Magnificent and Oozes style.I personally am not a big fan of pure Deco, but this is a special place.(wasn't Ferry photographed in here for Q Magazine many moons ago?) I had briefly stopped in a the Pig & Whistle and was pleased to meet up with a few familiar faces for a swift drink ,but didn't hang around long enough to get a "Hi-My Name Is_____" sticker slapped on me,so I had room for a couple more refreshments. Seats were decent-but though the theater generally appeared full, there were alot of empty ones.from my position mid-way center in the Orch.,I thought the band sounded great. The two new backing singers were Powerful and welcome addition. They did sound a little too strong in some points, but I think that was intentional.Colin Good has donned a 'Ferryesque' silver gray silk suit, but still looks like the choirboy who had too much sherry in his Trifle. I won't comment on the setlist or get into"I wish they",suffice to say that IMO it was a tight, enjoyable,(predictable) performance that I thoroughly enjoyed. I have to say that over the past three years my concert budget has been pretty much equally divided between Springsteen and Roxy/Ferry in Europe and the US.Neither has let me down-though only one regularly surprises me at each show, and to be honest when I'm trying to convince my Wife why I'm going to another show sometimes I hesitate and second guess myself ? It's a shame that we're not all born penniless and become incredibly wealthy as we approach/enter middle age? If that were the case,I know that a few 'Missing Persons' would have filled the empty seats and would have made a good night- special. (Think Roxy/MSG/Mustangs) And so the curtain fell and I followed Gail to procure my Laminate for the Wheeltappers & Shunters Afters Party.Initially I wasn't sure if we were in the right place? We were the first people at the bar ! Gradually folks started drifting in and we had a quick hello with Mr. Spedding, who was gracious enough to have his pic snapped with us,and reminded us how Talking Heads had opened for Roxy in New York many years ago! I mentioned Jocelyn et al to Paul and he commented on some 'Missing' familiar faces from the front rows.Bryan seemed happy and relaxed and signed a bunch of photos etc.before he left the room.Man of the Match award has to go to Mr. Manzo who was resplendent in Navy jacket,Big Polka Navy shirt, white strides and black and white brogues.Refreshing to see a man who still takes his attire seriously and manages to look like a star and not a fashion victim.......... I was just chatting to a friend today about what it must have been like backstage when Talking Heads and Roxy were THE Bright Young Things ? Like the Sixties-Not much fun really if you can remember any of it. Regards, DM well I'm drunk today. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jul 2003 02:01:13 EDT From: Go2Sweeney@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Toronto show The setlist and some photos of the Toronto show have been added to www.vivaroxymusic.com only a few hours after the end of the show. I've managed to hold off ordering it from overseas because of the lousy exchange rate plus the costs of postage and handling. It's going to sell here for about $37Aus.....a few stores will probably sell for less, so shop around! Best wishes to all......hope many of you lucky Avalonians are enjoying those Stateside concerts all over again. Cheers, Scotty in Melbourne __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
