How many of us would rush to the shops for a copy of For Your Pleasure SACD? (Especially with a couple of bonus tracks). In fact how many of us would buy any of the early titles provided the quality was high and the bonus tracks were decent? Who knows perhaps the early stuff would get rediscovered and gain a new appreciation. Thats not gonna happen with Avalon. As with anything its not the format it's the avaliable titles to play on it.... At the moment, it has not even reached the listing price (while I'm typing this that is). Love - War Love - War Love - War And it's do or die in the neighborhood. Can't you feel there's a fever rising - I'd kill you if I could. Neatest way is, to think about it - Just a chance to dream. Boo who on the telephone line - Makes you wanna scream! Love - War Love - War Love - War And it's sweet inside at the bitter pill. Get a taste for the fizzy water - Then you want no still. Oh, no, down, up - Why don't know where to turn. Boo who on the telephone line - Will you never learn! Love - War Love - War Like flowers in the rain, I'm twisted up inside - I'll never be the same. I hear the same old line, You play me for a fool - You really hurt my pride. Win or lose, you refuse and accuse me - But I don't know why. I can feel a fever rising, burning up the sky. All the pride and the pain and the fighting - Will it never end? Boo who on the telephone line - There she goes again! Love - War ....................... I think this song rates as one of the best Bryan Ferry has ever written! Everything about it is superb. Off and running, the juxtaposed 'love versus war' is loaded with the irony of a tumultuous relationship. Not only do the words oppose but one can hear the tension, the shoots and screeching of the synthesizer, the taunts and teasing of the witch. The overall beat conjures the pulling of a hotly matched 'tug-of-war' where the contestants are totally immersed with abandonment. This song is clean in style, interesting with transitions and expertly layered for maximum effect, right on down to the background's 'conversational style of a male voice attempting to sound calm and rational' belying the heavy heartfelt base while the accompanying lyric bares his soul that'll 'never be the same'. (More could be written, but listen with headphones if you don't understand what I am writing here.) "Love War" brings Mr. Ferry full cycle: The irony of love and war is the continuum of love turned to hate - the sad ruining of many lives once shared - and war that sometimes 'morphs' into 'love'. I feel "Love War" is such a Powerful Composition that it resides at the acme of contemporary song writing! - It doesn't get much better than this. Best wishes. KBP PS - Anton, I haven't forgotten about "You Can Dance", hopefully this week I'll get back to you on it. Any word on 'number three' yet? Hope all is well there! ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2003 09:51:20 -0500 From: "Paula Brown" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Inappropriate behaviour! >Dave: The question is, why would a man who values his privacy with such passion visit a PUBLIC house < Or go to a Tattler Party... SACD may be the next big thang, or a flash in the pan, or merely a Sony pipe dream. Only time will tell. It is annoying however, that the much ballyhooed AVALON is out on a format most of us will never hear it in. There was some discussion of "FIZZY WATER" a while back. I think it references Champagne, "bubbly" = high life. (and I don't mean the declasse Miller version) I.E.: Baby likes the finer things, and isn't willing to settle for less. An idea not out of character with the oeuvre of Mr. Ferry. My own humble opinion.
