I probably would have missed it otherwise. Not to mention the 5 star album review for "Live"! Very positive all told, though I have mixed feelings about a new Roxy album. Firstly, I agree with Tom that they talk about it a fair bit - always as a possibility of course, nothing concrete - almost as a promotional thing, a way of geeing up the fans' interest in whatever else they may be selling. On the other hand, if they really are thinking about it, I wish them well. I hope they all have some strong songs and that an album really materializes soon! Secondly, though, I think about other such projects... for example, the re-formed Television produced an album well below their previous standards (to my ears). The Buzzcocks managed one excellent EP followed by some fairly mediocre albums. I heard a Blondie single which I quite liked, but it had a vibe of old glories revisited and barely warmed over. The Velvet Underground managed one new song, highly unmemorable I felt, before splitting up again. Well, Roxy are and always have been unique, so maybe dwelling on other groups' histories is of no real relevance. It does influence the way I feel about the prospect of a new album, though. Maybe an EP would be a better idea? :O) Phil is good on the tensions between re-creating the old sound of a song, as recorded, versus the urge to re-make/re-model/muck about a bit. I wish they'd done a little more of the latter, but I can see the "need" not to tinker with the audience's "treasured memories" as it were. If they tour again maybe they could have faith that a lot of their audience can take a bit of re-working of old favourites. Overall I'm reminded of how impressed I was by Roxy's collective willingness to play a set which leaned so much on the earlier, more challenging material. Good for them! And Ferry was very expansive, for him, on the divorce traumas and the notion of being "on the road" as an escape from life's pressures. The very thing some of us have been speculating on in Avalonia, laid bare for all to read. Somewhat unexpected. They discuss the 2001 tour and the live album. They all seemed optimistic about the possibility of recording together again. I saw Caroline in Paris. And remembered she was indeed a very nice and warm person. When she fainted just after the concert, Jocelyn and John was helping here standing. I was taking care of water. But it didn't get better. She had to sit down on the ground. (John now I know, how you did forget to collect you camera back at the hall, that day) The main thing at that moment was Caroline. But instead of feeling sad for herself she felt more sorry for us. I don't think that she is a person who liked to be in the picture. She just wanted to have a great evening. And didn't want to "spoil" it for us. Yes, we really lost a warm person.
