I like Newmark as a session Drummer, he has one hell of a portfolio, but he could never have the stage presence of Paul. not allot of drummers do. Regards. Mark. - ----------------------------------------- Absolutley - full marks to PT for calling it quits - I think he maintains a degree of credibility for that where Ferry looks like he was bending over 'slightly'... As for Mr Newmark - I was mailed off list regarding his work elsewhere and I drew some conclusions - It was pointed out to me that he played on Double Fantasy which gave me a feeling of "yeah... and.. so.. what" - as I never felt there was anything good about Lennon records other than Lennon and even he was lazy at times... Then I was told he used to play with (musically that is) Sly & The Family Stone - now then it all fell into place! Roxy heading toward the RnB thing with F&B and Avalon explains to me why he was hired and also why he dosent cut the mustard on the pre-Manifesto material (IMHO) - seemingly playing the more jazz/rnb inflected stuff well and somewhat applying that style to the classic material somewhat awkwardly. Now I know the background I admit this may have had more to do with the Roxy direction than anything to do with his choice of what to play. For my money - PT is as good as it gets for Roxy. Odd because they have changed bass players like underwear and furthermore it is highly unusual for a drummer to really leave... almost a 'personality stamp' on a record - top bloke IMHO!
