I Agree Chris this discussion is leading us no where...we all have differing views and rightly so what worried me more than anything was the unfortunate deterioration to........ALAN JACKSON. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought that the name ALAN JACKSON would appear on a Roxy discussion board. Let alone the Phrase "I LOVE ALAN JACKSON"...CRINGE. About two years ago I won the album of the week on BBC radio 2. It was an ALAN JACKSON CD...En-titled "UNDER THE INFLUENCE." After listening to this collection of work I realised that the title was in way of a "Double Entendre". This body of work was supposed to have influenced this SINGING COWBOY. Mr Jackson's fans like a drink....Hardly surprising as he seems obsessed with singing about liquor in most of the songs that influenced him. The description of the fans, of this, lacklustre individual is exactly as I had imagined them. MOROSE AND MORONIC, Who with the grain of intelligence would attend a concert held by this guy? Personally I couldn't think of a better description of "HELL ON EARTH" Than being at an Alan Jackson concert sat next to a FAT ARSED WOMAN dancing in her seat Maybe the gratuitous violence witnessed was an effort to supplement the appalling bilge being emitted for the toe-tapping ensemble on stage. To anyone of the list that hasn't experienced the "JOY" of Mr JACKSON.....Don't bother. He's about as far removed from Roxy , as gold is to S**T. I've kept the CD...I find it useful in getting rid of guests that have over stayed their welcome.....put it on..and it soon clears the room. PoP a ToP. Mark. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 13:30:25 -0400 From: Colleen Matan Subject: Re: [AVALON] Live Fun?? And so let's stop this discussion here please. As I've said before: flame wars about Roxy/Ferry are one thing, but flame wars over other artists don't belong here. We all have different tastes and there's no reason for any of this on Avalon. Thanks. Thank God for the lyric sheets that turned up in later years. I found 'A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall' probably had the most misheard/incomprehensible lines and Mother of Pearl the most embarrasing (for me) - as a 13 year old in 1973 I thought 'All love and glory' was 'All oven glory'. Competition question (no prizes), Which Roxy song did I think had the line 'Brother Newbold in heaven' and what should the line have been. I'd be interested to know of fellow Avalonians' misheard lyrics - don't be shy, they can't be any more embarrasing than mine Alan (a bit mutton Jeff - or deaf to those non-Cockneys among you) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 16:15:29 -0400 From: David Neuhaus Subject: Re: [AVALON] misheard lyrics > Competition question (no prizes), >> Which Roxy song did I think had the line 'Brother Newbold in heaven' and what >> should the line have been. I'm sure one of them must be correct. I am not attending the Radio City show but I thought I would pass the information to you. Tickets for Jones Beach are on sale Sat. 6/14 at 11am. I don't believe there is a presale for this show. Hope to meet some of you there! Set List was as follows: The Only Face Don't Think Twice It's All Right Carrickfergus Smoke Get's In Your Eyes My One And Only Love The Thrill Of It All Cruel Ja Nun Hons Pris Fool For Love Tokyo Joe Dance Away My Only Love Tara Limbo Boys And Girls Slave To Love Jealous Guy Love Is The Drug Do The Strand Let's Stick Together Wolly Bully (Some personal impressions finally) The sound quality was quite poor, mainly because I think It wasn't loud enough When I'm attending a concert with TGPT I like to hear his bassdrum thick and his snaredrum clear and fine to get the proper beat of the songs. However it's always a challenge with open-air concerts but If I compare it with the one in London in March at Shephards Bush Empire the UK concert was a hell of a lot better + he also played A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall as the last song :-) in London. Never been to keen on hearing him do Wolly Bully either, OK it's a fun and good song but for me that isn't Bryan Ferry. Still "Let's Stick Together" is always pure power!!!! :-) Over and Out Kenneth ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 19:11:22 EDT From: KWil632057@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] misheard lyrics Dance Away will always be 'Thats the way the heart aches' for me. Dancing requires the whole body, seated dancing is akin to a passionless kiss...it's half-assed so why bother. My God, what are we coming to when unable to dance at a concert without offending someone? Being civilized does not mean being lifeless. I am personally acquainted with some jazz masters(the members of the incredible southern California jazz group Fourplay, Larry Carlton, Nathan East, Bob James, and Harvey Mason)traditionally most folks would boogie in their respective seat, and intellectualize the music. Nathan has on several occasions said he prefers when people dance during a show, as it is a visual confirmation that folks are enjoying themselves. The band really digs it! It is synergistic! Dance and when you get confused, listen to the music play! I would think if he's still doing some solo shows at the same time there are Roxy shows coming, that the solo show would have less Roxy material, if any. Isn't that what a lot of you are hoping for?
