In fact I suspect that some of the "lesser known" Roxy songs will be dropped in favour of well known tracks such as Avalon etc.. ========================================= I agree, but when you think about it most of the people who are going to fill most of these venues generally will be casual listeners who want to hear Dance Away etc At the MEN in Manchester it was only half full atbest and most of the people there looked lost by the set list which is sad but there you go - at Hyde Park especially they would be playing to the minority... Having said that Roxy werent realy a hits band, in my estimation many people at Roxy shows confuse them with Bryan Ferry shows - expecting to hear Lets Stick Together alongside Love Is The Drug because generally when people think Roxy they think of Bryan.... Ho hum... personally I think a short UK jaunt around places like the academy in Manchester etc would suit them better (though would likely not suit Ferrys ego). I saw Roxy play as the headline band at the Rock Werchter in Belgium, late one Sunday night. Many of those watching had been up for the best part of three days (certainly the evergreen hippy stood next to me, who began an alarming swaying action every time the band started playing, and spent the time between songs trying to persuade us all that we *had* to make it to the next full moon party in some Thai island) and did not represent a typical Roxy audience. Not only was the band on top form, Ferry in particular, but they were really well received by the festival crowd, many of whom had clearly didn't know the album tracks in the set but loved the '80s hits that they'd heard as part of their parents' record collections. Ferry strikes me as the kind of person who prefers taking the stage later, rather than earlier - and I imagine he probably enjoyed the challenge of introducing Roxy Music to a bedraggled crowd on a muddy Belgian field. (I will lose cred here and admit to thinking that be-feathered dancers were fab.) Faithless had appeared on the main stage just before Roxy and Rollo made it clear that he was really looking forward to the set but we were not treated to the Rollo & Bliss take on Love is the Drug. Hmmm. I wonder if something more isn't brewing in the Roxy camp. Hopefully at the very least a couple of new songs. Could it be possible ? Stranger things have happened...Or maybe Bryan just needs some divorce money...You know, she got the goldmine and he got the shaft. Running out of time. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V8 #149 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
