I for one being a strong supporter of Turkey's EU entry and I am glad the only song that, unlike Sweden's Fame et al, gave a sense of the national origin. The most intresting is 0 points fo the UK. Why a country with so many good writers and artists can not score better is a mystery to me. Morissey being a great fan should enter the Eurovision Song Contest. A pity that UK can not enter A song for Europe since the material most be fresh, ie the rip-offs not to obvious. I heard Fleetwood Mac's Second hand news in one song and my musical wife said Slovenia used the intro of Let's stick together. Not to me, or at least to my ears, the girl started singing was so out of tune that I was struck with disbelieve, what a bummer! She was singing a thirth backing voice without a basic harmonic leadvocal underneath. that's why the taped music dit not fit the vocal. Painfull to listen to with exact-pitch hearing. Later in the song the guy did the same thing. When they were both singing it sounded was oke. Besides, the song was eh.. 'not very special' as most songs where. UK should have send Goldfrapp with Black Sherry!! >A pity that UK can not enter A song for Europe since the material most be >fresh, ie the rip-offs not to obvious. I heard Fleetwood Mac's Second hand >news in one song and my musical wife said Slovenia used the intro of Let's >stick together. Listening to the songs I waited for anything better that the obvious or the zilliond ripp off, stupid songs (incl.holland) that you've heard for 40 years on the radio. I thought Greece had a good song and performance, I was thinking 'great song reminds me of genesis'.....hey a phil collins song! Belgium was great with accoustical instruments, refreshing, it was my fav.(with a lttle voice in the back of my head going, Clannad!) Turkey, good song and performance but I dont like it when those high notes are sung in falsetto (I dont like the mixture of pop and opera voices i.g. Josi Carrera's doing A Song For Europe) and why is it that every turkish pop song use the same bellydancers-drumloop. there was a turkish song named 'kiss, kiss' beeing released twice in the last four? year, that had the same basictracks. A verry poor ripp off. Not a single performer that touched me in any way! (the austria clown not incl, sad!, mad! ) Don't remember any name. (tatu, what a joke, not incl.) I was watching it because the writer of the dutch song (Tjeerd van Zanen) is a well known gitarist from the Rotterdam music scene. And he played with some musicians I am playing with at the moment. Some sort of musical emphathy. We played two songs by Tjeerd on our last gig. His song was oke for a chart listing but to obvious for a songcontest. I think it's about time to lose this songcontest and surrounding organisations that only try to keep the flame burning for the sake of some EEG publicity. Artist should be selected by there talent and skills. There is not a single reason one can come up with that validates the euro!! vision!! songcontest. cheers, Cor _________________________________________________________________ Chatten met je online vrienden via MSN Messenger. http://messenger.msn.nl/ ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 May 2003 15:12:42 +0100 From: "Chris Turner" Subject: RE: [AVALON] RE: Tatu/Eurovision hijinks/the straw that broke the camel's back Thanks Mr Deagler, It couldn't have been easy to type that tatu stuff with one hand down the front of your shorts. Colleen, you have acted with admirable restraint up until now, but some people are too thick-skinned to recognise subtlety. If you really must insist on taking the role of list owner as opposed to administrator, it is time to assume some proprietorial responsibility. It's becoming obvious that the Atterboms, Deaglers, Buchs et al of this world are incapable of unexpressed thought. Posting off-topic is a policy for these people. I already receive over 100 spam emails each day, and these repeated on-list infractions are no more welcome than these. I'm not normally censorial but I think a brief suspension or some similar kind of censure for this repeatedly unreasonable behaviour might spare the rest of us and concentrate a few minds. It's not as if there aren't a bazillion places on the net where these general topics can be discussed. To you all, please consider before pressing that send button, whether your post really adds to the value of the discussion. I read every word that is posted here, as a courtesy to the authors. Please make sure that you reciprocate that courtesy. Typing 'me too' or 'hear hear' as some have this week, or stating 'I like Siren' without any explanation as to why is virtually pointless. Then there's those morons who say 'The list's quiet today so I thought I'd talk about '. What fascinates you about Dr Who or the White Stripes or motorcycle jackets or David Bowie or your cat's latest fur ball is probably not of real interest to many of the other 300 people here. Roxy Music discussion on the other hand, definitely is. And please, before anyone suggests that if I don't like it I should leave, just remember that no-one should be penalised for following the rules. It is the off-topic posters that are spoiling it for many other people who make up a silent majority. Avalon is still a good resource, but finding good, on-topic discussion is increasingly like panning for gold. Given that Ferry's just won an award, seems to live his life in the newspapers recently, and that there is a reunion and an imminent album and tour, it shouldn't be that hard. Thank you for listening. What exactly is irrelevant or off topic about that Mr. Ferryman? Might I suggest the use of the delete key if you have no interest in the topic (whether on or off) or is it broken? I still love the shoe advertisement, "If the shoe fits, wear it". Although the little girl's shoe is obviously too small for Mr. Ferry, it is the shoe's color that makes me smile: Really, I think he would look strikingly dapper wearing a pair of ?emerald green? nubuck-on-leather saddle shoes. I'll let your imaginations fill in the remainder of his attire. - Done correctly, he'd look great. But a 'funnier', this time with the sense of oddity or weirdness, is the Mamouna video: Bryan Ferry riding a horse in the style of Lawrence Of Arabia, only to hop-off and steal into refuge .... incognito hanging out with the harem stylized ladies in bathing is So Strange that I wonder who originally envisioned this concept for the video and why! There have been stranger Ferry things... Best wishes. kBP ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 May 2003 19:13:30 +0200 From: Daniel Atterbom Subject: Re: [AVALON] Funny Ferry Moment? Together with Avalon and More then this they are the videos,of all videos, I mostly see on VH1 and VH1 classic, but it might just be that I catch them through lucky random viewing. I asked Virgin in Stockholm if Mr Ferry was giving any interviews on June 12, but they, having checked with Virgin Germany, said that Virgin were not involved in the gig. They said that the gig is done without record company support, ie the royal castle have booked Mr Ferry on their own. Being more of a Roxy fan then a Ferry fan and in light of recent setlists I might not make the trip after all ... Colleen, If you really are serious about stopping personal attacks on list members, you may wish to discontinue your use of the cowardly pseudonym 'Mr Avalon' to do exactly that. That way you won't appear such a hypocrite to those of us who are aware of your alter ego. At least I have the decency to put my own name at the bottom when I call a spade a spade.
