Dr. Simon Puxley was one of Bryan Ferry's closest friends who sadly died in 1999. Simon wrote the sleeve notes for the first Roxy Music album and on the Windswept E.P. He has worked closely with Bryan over the years in the writing and production of his songs. Bryan dedicated Mother Of Pearl to him at the Roxy' Music's first gig in his home town London at Wembley Arena 22nd June 2001"......... A few thoughts come to my mind when reading this After Simon's death, Bryan must have gone trough a very hard time, rethinking the past with his close friend, the first roxyday's, SP even wrote THOSE sleevenote's. I'll wonder how mutch this influenced Bryan, longing for Simon and with him, those early Roxy day's when life for Bryan was that stimulating, to come up with what he came up with. Spices added by PT, AM, BE and PM and some other people. The only way to get a little of that back must haver been by working and touring with Roxy Music (old style, that's with all the first album's songs) and not as BF solo. The "plaincrash": We all know that he kept his cool (so we heard). I'll bet a tenner that "Virginia Plain" at least at one point must have been in Bryan's toughts at that moment. He was on that rollercoaster.......airplaineride.....we are flying down......trow me a line, iam sinking fast..... What would he had given at that moment in time to do that song one more time live. The reunion was after both experiences only a mather of money ehh.. time I mean. Bryan was allready f...y rich, and I don't 'buy' this "he did it for the money" crap. Beside's, there's as far as I know no greater kick then playing live for a crowd (when it all works out fine). It even beats sex, I dont mean love, witch is unbeatable. more serious What I actualy thought Dr. !! S. Puxley. A docter. Bryan was for years a patient (addicted). A Friend. Addiction to cocaine, also known by the glamname "Mother of Pearl" the name come's from the pearly white snowlike shine of cocaine. Witch song was dedicated to Simon Puxley at Roxy's first London gig of the reunion tour. Then that leaves me with two questions. a. Did Dr. Simon Puxley provided the drugs (He was around at the time when it all was in its innocent stage) b. Did Dr. Simon Puxley helped Bryan cleaning up, if so. (he was a close enough friend to tell it as it is to Bryan) I am not pointing a finger, I am just wondering anyone with an answer?? or am I searching for gost here. cheers, Cor _________________________________________________________________ MSN Zoeken, voor duidelijke zoekresultaten! http://search.msn.nl ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 May 2003 11:57:55 -400 From: akom@rochester.rr.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Ferry\'s funnies (Connected to wit, sort of) >Subject: SV: [AVALON] Ferry's funnies (Connected to wit, sort of) > >I think Bryan was quite funny when Roxy played in Bremen in 1973. >I remember Bryan's reaction and comment when they started Psalm, Eddie played >it wrong, and they had to restart..... But you'd never know it, the way Tatu have been acting up in Latvia this week. The pseudo-lesbian prima donnas from Moscow, Lena Katina, 17, and Julia Volkova, 18, who are representing Russia at this year's event, have had Riga in uproar. After refusing to sing in rehearsals, Russia's biggest pop act have sulked their way through press conferences, playing with each other's hair and refusing to answer questions. When they arrived, they declared that they hated everything. The press has been following their every move since. No one knows what the two are planning to do in their performance at tonight's contest. After the pair announced that they planned to spend their spare time having "sex in a very small bed", Riga's rumour mills went into overdrive. Would they strip out of their costumes? Would they kiss? Might they even not turn up? Bookmakers William Hill have offered odds of 4-1 that the pair will be disqualified from the contest. The word here is that the European Broadcasting Union - which puts on the event with the host country every year - is not impressed. Organisers have said they could broadcast a recorded version of Tatu's performance if the two get up to onstage antics that are not deemed wholesome family fun. However, ordinary Latvians are bored stiff by Tatu's antics and by the Eurovision, which the country shelled out 4.5m lats (#5m) to host. Over the past few years the contest has been moving deeper into the countries that will soon become members of the expanded European Union, but the most Eurosceptic of the Baltic states is underwhelmed. "We don't really care about it," says one Latvian. "It's great for raising our profile and for tourism, but that's about it." Another says: "We're more interested in ice hockey." When Latvians go to the polls later this year to vote in a referendum on EU entry, they're likely to say "yes". But it's doubtful they'd ever be bothered to host the Eurovision again. _________________________________ and... 24-MAY-03 RIGA (Reuters) - Controversial Russian pop duo t.A.T.u., favorites to win Saturday's Eurovision Song Contest, have given show organizers another headache hours before the live event begins. Many suspect the duo will try to ambush the 48th Eurovision, hosted this year by Latvia, and give the family event an X-rated spin. Rumors of nudity and lesbian kissing are rife. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) show organizer said on Saturday it would brave all and broadcast the controversial duo's live act without any backup tape despite a series of rehearsal flops. The organizers had threatened to switch to footage from rehearsals if the two 18-year-old girls' live performance became too raunchy on the big night. The girls, who appear in school uniforms in provocative videos, flunked a final rehearsal on Saturday. One of the pair, Julia Volkova, failed to show up after also halting Friday's dress rehearsals mid-song. "The band's manager, Ivan Shapovalov, said Julia has a throat infection and is taking prescription medicine," the EBU said in a statement. "The management of t.A.T.u. is sure that Julia will be well enough to perform on the big night." Despite all the attention, the maverick teenagers hoping to take Eurovision to Moscow for the first time may face a tough challenge from Turkey's charismatic Sertab Erener, who is emerging as another possible front-runner. Spain's Beth, Iceland's Birgitta and Sweden's Fame are also tipped to go high in the competition famous for its curious mix of high ambition and uneven talent, which is expected to be watched by 160 million people across Europe and beyond. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V8 #145 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
