So, rumours suggest that Roxy will be headlining the final night at Glastonbury this year and that the Hyde Park show is merely a warm-up, albeit a well paid one (the Hyde Park concerts are sponsored by the Halifax building society). If Roxy do play Glasto it would be the biggest gig they have ever done. Hmmm.... Also The Police never disappoint good singles band crap albums, saw them live in 79 Sting was a self indulgent poser and it is the worst concert I have ever seen.Every artist I believe disappoints at sometime but one of the reasons I like Roxy/Bryan is I find something good in every album they have released.Alan ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 May 2003 10:34:06 +0000 From: "Chris Turner" Subject: [AVALON] Glastonbury? MIght be difficult to use London as a warm up. Glastonbury is two and a bit weeks BEFORE Hyde Park on Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June. That doesn't leave long for rehearsal given that BF's tour doesn't finish until June 13th. Lineups for Glasto are revealed on May 30th BTW. Does anyone else finfd it odd that BF is playing solo, and then with Roxy within a month with an almost identical band line-up? Why not play them all as Roxy? Might suggest that this reunion was somewhat hurriedly put together? Pedantic Question: Can you actually have two 'one-offs'? This is not a gimmick - it is a viable method that has been successfully employed by many artists - one must 'grow' - 'got to keep on moving, or I'll die' stuff. Marlana's other observation, comment, was the idea that a personal appearance (even if for only 20 minutes) at either Mad Affairs would have created more GoodWill for Mr. Ferry than almost any other twenty minute promotional appearance he has made in recent history. That increased goodwill could have gone far in soothing the weary fan, who, after all, is the maintainer of his celebrity. True, Ferry owes us nothing, but a little personalized PR at a 'fan convention' would reap much more reward for Mr. Ferry than the effort to appear would have cost him. Never more true, "... but until Ferry decides,...". Until Ferry decides just what to do or not to do... it's all a matter of question. My nickel. - ---------- Kari! I'm Jealous!!! But surely special AKA Nelson Mandela was a PROTEST song.....I was writing about songs of social realism a different genre entirely.........I've never been to hot on the Protest songs. A few years ago iset up my own Company it was a real struggle at first to employ the right staff for certain positions.....and interviewing people was a complete nightmare....I felt uncomfortable and the interviewee's felt uncomfortable you could feel the tension in the room.....It's awful when you want to give a good interview and nerves take over..........I hit upon the idea of chatting about music it really helped to calm the situation, and probably because it is a subject that I have always had an enormous interest in, and nearly everybody has a musical highlight ...you would soon got a picture of the person you were interviewing.....Here's what I discovered....I have always found that the people who's musical highlights are selected from the 80's to be rather Shallow.....not just in there choice of music but in everyday life....lets face it...the 50's 60's 70's 90's and beyond all had something to offer. Each decade gave its self a "Shot in the arm" so to speak....but the 80's offered so little sure there was the occasional peak EG The Smiths...but in general a very disappointing decade. Just a small observation. Oh and thanks putting me right about the DE or was it DA or DO....DEDADO..there is a song in there somewhere I'm sure of it. Like Alan I saw the Police in 79 Manchester University.......they were terrible walked out after 20 minutes, walked about a mile to see a band called "Certain Ration" they were great so much better than the Police yet in the 80's it was the Police that became such a mega band......and a Certain Ratio faded.Oh well there you go yet another crime of the 80's.
