I saw Simple Minds and their support band, INXS in Toronto last year and both acts were suberb. Kerr was just as good (vocally, not looks) as he was when I saw them in playing in The Mars Bar in Glasgow all those years ago. Hi All - hope everyone is well. I've been listening to Tori Amos, particularly her latest album 'Scarlet's Walk'. And before anyone flames me the link to Roxy is that she now resides in Cornwall the birthplace of Andy Mackay. I HAVE heard his vocal style compared to Bryan Ferry's. Whatevver happened to the Transylvania Twist? Reecey tells me the Massive Attack discussion board is alive with the sound of Lucy. I have seen them on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed, this time round however, I thought twice and was then left with no option as all London dates sold out rapidly. I am, however not impressed at all by the new album (which I have to admit I've only played twice) Well, at least it took three albums for me to get fed up, it only took two with Portishead after their sublime debut album. That's why I'm ecstatic at Goldfrapp's complete departure with their second album. Only a couple of atmospheric numbers and the rest all squirty Iggy Nightclubbing and Human League Being Boiled backing tracks. Strikes me Roxy were one of the few bands that didn't cock it up for me until Manifesto. So that's kind of 5 strikes not out. How many other bands have done that for you punters out there? I just know you're all going to come up with Bowie, Beatles, Stones etc. And Ferry would probably pipe up with Dylan (but we all know he's mad!) So come on guys and gals - who's never disappointed you in the album stakes? Jocelyn NP -To cover another thread- Goldfrapp. Hoverphonic, Mono and Paddy Macaroon (on a very bizarre recommendation) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 May 2003 19:10:13 EDT From: Go2Sweeney@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Lucy Wilkins, Massive Attack etc In a message dated 09/05/2003 23:54:31 GMT Standard Time, Jocelynfiske@aol.com writes: > So come on guys and gals - who's never disappointed you in the album stakes? > > Only one person, and that's Lou Reed. Listen to any of his albums, solo, or with the Velvet Underground, and you might, just might, get the drift. Of course, a lot of people never get it, but then again, it's their loss. I know that quite a few people on this list disagree, but then again, it's personal taste. I think his weakest album was "New Sensations", but it's still miles better than most of the stuff out there. In tied second place there's Roxy Music and Leonard Cohen. Goodie N.P.
