Hi, folks- I've been off-list for awhile and just got back on. Looks like it's slow so let me ask, what's everyone listening to at the moment? I have been on a retro-prog-rock kick these last few weeks. A lot of Jethro Tull (Benefit, Thick as a Brick), Yes (Fragile, Close to the Edge) and now some Strawbs (Just a Collection of Antiques and Curios, Ghosts plus the never-tiresome "Lay Down"). However, I also can't seem to get the White Stripes new one, "Elephant" out of the cd changer. What a great album. Only one or two songs that are less than great and some absolutely fantastic rock songs. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Oh, well excuse me. I suppose silence is preferable to finding out what other members of a list, with whom I share a common passion, are listening to, thereby possibly enabling me to be exposed to some music that I might otherwise have missed. I'm listening to Stephen Malkamus (seeing him live next week), Ravel, Paul Quinn and the Independent Group, Primal Scream, Ash (seeing them live next month).... If there are any X-Men fans here, please e-mail me *OFF-LIST*. I've watched the cartoon in bits and pieces ages ago (never read the comics) and need someone to refresh my memory about The Phoenix Saga. And tell me about Lady Deathstrike. (No one on a coupe of other lists was able to provide the info and I haven't been able to find much yet on the internet.) I saw X2 for the second time today!!! Perhaps this rule-conscious list member would find these "listening to" threads more palatable if we incorporated some sort of "Six Degrees of Roxy Music" game into the spin... That Supergrass-Marc Bolan post piqued my interest ("thank you" to whoever u were) & that's currently spinning in my CD carousel. Still spinning from the circumvention... D. Before this gets ugly: we did just have a long long LONG off-topic thread on music which many people tolerated but were not interested in. I can't blame list members who don't want to be part of another one--Avalon is a Roxy/Ferry list, not a general topic list. I'm not quashing the thread, but I can't have this devolve into a flamefest. Thanks. Ahem... I 've been on a CD buying jag lately. Interpol, hasn't done anything for me, really. Fischerspooner left me a bit deflated, even tho they are great fun live. Mainly I've been listening to newly bought CDs of old favorites. Ziggy Stardust (Ryko version with the bonus cuts) and Pin-Ups But especially Nico... The Marble Index. The End has to be the best album for opening a vein on a winter's evening to, bar none. With Eno and Manzanara on board, pure bummed-out bliss. I especially love the Eno synth treatment on Innocent and Vain, that sound like a Pterodactyl caught in a window shade.
