Was allowing myself to be overwhelmed because of all of the hype but when I finally heard their new music (new?) I was left wondering what the fuss is all about. They're OK, I don't hate them but I don't mean to either buy or download any of their music. Now Cher is an institution, isn't she? Each time I've seen her live, she has managed the wow factor and put on the great show. Next time, you think it won't be topped, but it is... I did manage to catch Warren Zevon on Letterman back in like October; I thought he was supposed to die within a few weeks, but apparently he's beating the odds for a while longer yet... I should have sent advanced warning. Conan gets lots of hot bands on his show. He's a real music fan. The house band on his show is the best on US television. Just hear the little of clips of songs they reference. I'm sorry I missed the Warren Zevon appearance on Letterman! He's still hanging in there, but I'm sure the days are numbered. Speaking of Letterman, did you see Elvis Costello subbing for Dave when Dave was out with the shingles? Very funny that chap. Oh yeah he showed up on Frazier last week. Now he's a media slut. HA! I've been impressed with what I've heard from White Stripes; they have a cover of the Dolly Parton song "Jolene" that just blows me away almost as much as early Roxy does. I will seek this out now. > ( Nina Simone.. Rest in Peace) Amen to that, what a remarkable woman she was; apparently planned on being a concert pianist until she fell in with the nightclubbing scene. I have noticed she has covered some of the same artists/tunes that Ferry has, like I Put a Spell on You, Love Me or Leave Me, Dylan, Lennon, more that I'm forgetting. Her own songs are works of art; who can listen to "Four Women" and not be moved deeply? She also has done Harrison ( Here Comes the Sun), and Brel (Ne Me Quitte Pas), Gershwin, Ellington. et al. This women was an icon who did not get her due in the States. I think now in death ( as we have seen with so many other underappreciated artists) she will become legendary. I hope that is not the fate of Bryan/ Roxy at least here in the States. I wonder if Bryan was a fan? We know he liked Billie Holliday. It's always been nice to see the range of musical tastes on this list. This is what brings us together in ways we do not realize.
