Will you now be getting rid of your cd's because of the arrival of DVD Audio? It really has nothing to do with sentiment, the audio quality of cd may be cleaner than an old well played 45, however it can also lack the character and warmth that made the sound of the 45 so desirable at the time of purchase. many cd's sound rather sterile when compared to the original releases on 45 or album. I do agree that 45's did have a warmer sound that some CDs, but what I was saying is, I stopped playing 45's, so I got rid of them. If I was still playing them I would have kept them. In contrast I've kept a few 33's, as I very occasionally still play those. And no, I don't intend getting rid of the CDs... Still have Nico/The End on 8 track, as a memento mori from the days when hippies roamed the earth. I used to play that one over and over again. I loved "That'll Be the Day," too. There were a lot of those singles that I loved, though. I heard "Music To Watch Girls By" in an old movie a few days ago and it sent me into a flashback. I loved playing 45s when I finally got my own stereo, but the best was playing them on jukes. I still have fond memories of playing my favorite new songs on the jukeboxes at local pizza joints or ice cream places. It was always great when something would come along with a great flip-side that was more raucous than the hit side. - -Rob ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2003 22:03:37 +0200 From: "danyellow" Subject: [AVALON] I am old but i Can still Remember Your First 45 Ciao kids I bought my turntable when I was 15 but bat the time I didn't like 45s better to buy LPs : less expensive price per song heheh but Ferry at the time had the good idea to use 45s for previously unrealized songs so i had to surrender maybe a bit late when the Roxy 45s were already taken from the albums anyway the b sides were originals well my first 45 was the italian Love is the drug/sultanesque now I am a collector and I have dozens or "Virginia plain"S hehehe my first Non Roxy 45 was We r the champions /we will rock U queen the only good song they made hahaha the bogeydanny ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2003 16:09:12 EDT From: Jocelynfiske@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Can You Remember Your First 45? > Can you remember the first 45 you have ever bought? The next one was My Cherie Amour by Stevie, bought because I was in love with my French teacher (how sad is that?) And Silver Machine by Hawkwind was one of the trio of songs which formed the backdrop to our underage Geordie pubcrawls on Friday nights -starting in The Gay Trouper (which just meant happy in those days but it was full of sailors and Hells Angels) and took in The Pineapple, The Red House, The Eldon and The Man In The Moon - BF used to turn up regularly in the upstairs room at The Eldon and we would always hear the rumour across town and leg it over there to only just miss him, happened all the time! Anyone else out there remember those days? The other two songs of that time were Schools Out and Layla. BTW does it mean you're going puggle if you can remember more from 30 years ago than you can remember from last week? I'm a Believer by The Monkees I still like it and can't tell you how thrilled I was to see Neil Diamond sing it in London last year. Silver Machine must have been an early purchase too. Just being reminded of it has brought back vivid memories of the Waltzers at the funfair down at the beach in Aberdeen. How cold does that sound? You needed some good loud music to take your mind off the freezing rain and wind coming off the North Sea. An awful lot of you must be as old as me. And yes, Jocelyn, 30 years ago seems like yesterday sometimes. Worrying isn't it? Now, where did I leave my Zimmer frame.....
