As promised, I can now offer up a further 5 copies of the Manchester 2003 tree to the first 3 offlist e-mails received PLUS 2 more chosen at random tomorrow (when I know digest members will see this offer for the first time). I will confirm to each lucky person that they are getting their own copies of these 2 CDs (excellent quality by the way). When I post that the offer is closed, I will have already written to the lucky people and they will know they have got them. Anyone who has not heard from me will have to assume they were unlucky. Please email me off list now - I will post anywhere. Best wishes Richard Mills (also celebrating a 30th Roxy anniversary this year - thanks for the earlier 3rd party mention!) n/p need I go through this again (see above)? ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Apr 2003 10:44:38 +0100 From: chris.clare@bt.com Subject: [AVALON] 30 Years Long Service I feel so inferior... think Ive only has about 6/7 years service LOL! Somebody pointed out to me a group of long haired weirdos wearing make-up!! unloading some equipment from a van....Didn't take much notice at the time, as my new 'best' friend still had 2 sherbet chews and half a packet of spangles left for the trip home to Beckenham. Chris Cassidy mentioned to me that the cost of a show in 1972 was 60p.In relation to prices at the time a 'single' was 45-50p.If anybody has any old ticket stubs,(that they can actually find-my problem) what were the prices of tickets from the various tours over the years? That's the great thing about the music. Still relevant, still wonderful. And all the 'newies', once hooked, get out there and collect the old stuff. Fabulous that he can still appeal to younger persons. And 'M' - your beautiful dresses - reminds me that in the early days we all used to get dressed up for a Roxy gig....... My own two daughters are both fans - not that they had a lot of choice as they were growing up mind you! And there's Katie Siren at 16 who is a devoted fan. And Chris Cassidy's daughter, Isabella who is even younger. I love all this. Not forgetting, of course, my 3 year old grandson who does a terrific version of The Strand! Catch them while they're young, I say. There's also one baby I know of who came into the world listening to Bryan - so - Graciepoohs - are you the youngest at 15 months? Haven't located the 77 onwards ones, or other 73 - 75 ones as yet - I've got boxes and boxes of stuff in the cellar (no room anywhere else for it !), strange digging it all out again, especially as I've found old posters, music papers & programmes etc that I had long, long forgotten all about. I'd forgotten too how massive those old 'Pace' Roxy posters were in the 70s !, think I'd need to build several large walls (or win the lottery and buy a mansion) to display them all properly again, and now I understand why jacket lapels were so massive back in the early 70s - they had to be, for ridiculous sized Pop Group badges to even fit on them. Nice to find all my Sadistic Mika Band signed stuff again ! (my fave Roxy support Band). My god, even my old 'Roxy Music Fan Club' membership card was there. I'll bet there's a few of us on this list with those cards lurking somewhere, no doubt. Ok, back in the boxes with this lot... Next up though, I must try and dig out the old 'Fan Club Newsletters' from the early 70s one day, I know they're here somewhere, and would be a nice historical document, to see what was being written then, by the fans particularly. Wembley 1980 4 pounds Granby Halls 1981 5 pounds Birmingham Odeon 1981 5 pounds. Incidently in the 30th aniversary cd release of Bowies "Ziggy Live" from Hammersmith Odeon there is a replica ticket stub stating that it cost 2 pounds, now I went to see him on this tour only a month earlier at Leicester where the entry fee was only 60p. Did they really increase the prices by over 300per cent? or is it just someone guessing? Anyone here still have an original stub from this show? Catching up on the recent conversation re the cancelling of Ferry's Scottish dates and the state of his larynx. Ferry's voice was on its last legs last Summer in Rome (July 30th) when it was absolutely touch and go whether he made it through the night or not. He did-only just, but painfully and quite possible against all doctor's advice. At Reading he tried out an additional song, but a delicate version of Just One Look and pulled the plug on the more raucous Woolly Bully, so he was probably starting to feel the strain then. So it kind of begs the question, why push yourself physically non stop for the past 3 years practically. It might be because there's not one person with a full set of testicles brave enough to tell Mr F enough's enough. It might be because, by his own admission, BF finds life on the road far easier to deal with than real life, everything is thought out for you, you just have to turn up and perform (and he keeps his side of the bargain rather well, when his bits are all functioning). But I have a theory. Is BF James Bond? (he has the styling) Jackie O? (he has the oversized Persol sunglasses), Johnny Ray? (the finger in the year for JG is pure Ray theatrics) Garbo? He wants to be alone. No, Mr Ferry thinks he's bloody Bob Dylan, and as such he will be on the road until the daft old git pegs out. Who'll drop dead first, us or him is anyone's guess. And I'd put big money on him eventually attempting to emulate another idol of his, ending up in Vegas doing years worth of extended cabaret. I can just see Reecey and Ivor now, reaching out for the spotted silk scarf soaked in sweat that he dangles tantalisingly infront of them. Me? I'm just waiting for him to throw me his teeth.
