Soft percussion, piano, and background vocal reflections are heard from the rear, while on SACD, Ferry's voice is incredibly more lifelike and natural. Certain effects (the whip on "Cruel") are best experienced in surround. Even if you're not yet sold on the idea of pop in surround, get the SACD for the clean, ultra-dynamic two-channel presentation." So which is this? "Multichannel sound" or "two-channel presentation"? Does anyone know, preferably someone with a copy, if Frantic SACD has 5:1 mix or has just upgraded a two-channel stereo mix? There is definitively a difference! If I had to go to the proverbial desert island and only bring 2 Box Sets with me, it would be Roxy Music and Steely Dan. I think they go hand in hand -- amazing insightful lyrics, music that transports you to another place, another plane. Steely Dan has more jazz influence, Roxy Music more of a romantic feel. And they both began in the early 1970s. WAS there ever a place like Southern California in the 1970s? I grew up in Coronado (suburb of San Diego). I love that you juxtaposed the lyrics to "Can't Let Go" with "Babylon Sister". I do think Exene was married to John Doe. Their albums, especially Wild Gift and Los Angeles, just bring back L.A. for me in all it's splendor - Silverlake with it's Mexican book stores and art galleries, the Melrose of Cowboys and Poodles, Flip of Hollywood and Aron's Records (where I worked for about 2 years) and Vinyl Fetish, Rodney Bingenheimer. Clubs like Raji's and Al's Bar, Mexican restaurants and mariachi music blaring out of old Chevys, bright sunshine and smog and little moderne courtyard apartments with tropical plants and peeling stucco and swimming pools. Do I sound pretentious yet? No apologies. More great bands that we listened to in that era were: The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and the Gun Club (also from L.A). I especially recommend the Gun Club as one of L.A.'s great bands. Check out Miami or Fire of Love or The Las Vegas Story.
