How about Bryan - having recovered from laryngitis - covering 'I got you babe'? I know it's a wornout number, but on my bike I was suddenly imagining hearing Bryan sing the refrain I got you to hold my hand I got you to understand etc, etc. in his low, moaning, quavering voice. Can you folks hear this too?? How about it? Wow, the song came to life and jumped towards me and shed all its dust and rust... And furthermore, I feel a lot of compassion with all of you who went to the northern concerts that were cancelled. Bryan's to be pitied, but you are too. I would have felt sooooo disappointed in your shoes. Let's hope for an excellent recovery and rescheduling with enough spaces in between (cause as age creeps on, one's voice will need more rest between strenuous efforts...) I think it's too much of a karaoke type song for Bryan. Can't imagine who he would sing it with either. Can't imagine Bryan singing this. But, then again, I could imagine him singing 'Don't Be Cruel' and thought he made an excellent job of it when I heard it - so what do I know!!!? >And furthermore, I feel a lot of compassion with all of you who went to the >northern concerts that were cancelled. Thanks for your sentiments here. It was very very disappointing, but I'm just concerned that Bryan recovers. What's a cancelled concert or 4 compared to his health! I do hope he does some UK summer shows though. Ferry and Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde would be great. Or Betsy Martin from Caterwaul and the Sea Hags. Debbie Harry would be cool. Or Marianne Faithfull or Patti Smith. There are a lot of great duets out there for Bryan. "I Got You Babe" would have to be Ferry and Exene Cervenka. ;-) - -Rob On Monday, March 31, 2003, at 11:29 AM, DEAGLERR@aol.com wrote: > Dunno about I Got You Babe as a vehicle for Mr. Ferry, as It's a duet. > Not that an album of Duets would be a bad thing for BF. > I just have a hard time seeing him SHARE a mike with anybody. > The singer(s) would have to be carefully chosen to match both Ferry & > the > songs, All covers, I'd imagine. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 15:37:00 EST From: Go2Sweeney@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] I got you babe In a message dated 31/03/2003 21:33:25 GMT Standard Time, jackson.robert.r@attbi.com writes: > Exene Cervenka. ;-) > Okay I'm being ignorant, who's that??? Well there are certainly a few in the cans dating back to the summer of 2000 when he originaly recorded "Baby Blue" and "Don't Think Twice". I was worried back then that he may well have considered doing a Dylan covers album, I hope he doesn't though, the odd song here or there I coild handle, but an entire albums worth would be a no, no. Ferry's description is totally frenzied, he's burning up from two nights on coke and now he just has to drive around. On the other hand, Steely Dan's is so laid back and relaxed - "the end of a perfect day". I once read an analysis of the Babylon Sisters as being the experience of an older man taking a young girl out of L.A. for the weekend "turn that jungle music down so nobody sees us". All in all I have to say that I prefer Babylon Sisters, and "Here come those Santa Ana winds again" is one of the most beautiful descriptions of L.A. (my home until I was 25) that I can think of in pop music.
