Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry, 57, and wife Lucy, 42, reportedly were divorced March 21st in London after 21 years. The couple have four children." Please note--before anyone mentions how boring the "D" subject is--that what is SIGNIFICANT about this is that Bryan's name rarely appears in such a mainstream U.S. magazine. I realize it's not the most pleasant coverage, but it's encouraging to see that he got some attention in a country that is so oblivious of him on the whole. Then again, maybe the editors just needed some news filler. What a relief when something fresh comes along, isn't it? I know what you mean about things feeling stagnant. That's how I feel these days, with recycling of 70's culture. I mean, all I see is marketing of 70's op-art clad disco kids in funky settings acting quirky and trying to sell web hosting or Ikea or whatever. I am sick of funky, quirky 70's disco culture. I am sick of bell bottoms. I am for life around the corner. Where is the next Roxy Music? I feel very sorry for all those people who he had to disappoint! I would have been absolutely devastated myself. But it's not very well-reflected to feel anger like I know so many people did, because this illness may develop pretty sudden, and especially if you have overstrained your voice like Bryan has been doing the last years! The fact that he went to Dundee with the intention of performing, indicates he was feeling better, but with an eye to a continued song career for Bryen Ferry, we might be lucky that the doctors stopped him in the last minutes! Let's hope this is just an acute laryngitis and that he'll get well again in some days by keeping his mouth shut!! No singing and no booze, Bryan! I pray that I will be able to HEAR you in Langesund on 13. June! Jings, Crivvens and help ma boab (Stereotypical Dundee speak) Barely recovering from c*ncellation (OK colleen?) of Glasgow I managed to get a ticket at 2pm on Friday (from the Caird Hall box office) as the promoter had returned 100 to the venue for sale. So, finish work at 5. Drive 40 miles. Home at 6. Leave at 7, drive 85 miles in the darkness and fog (almost being killed by some asshole, probably pissed, who did not understand the concept of giving way to traffic on the main road. Arrive Dundee 8.35. 10 minutes to find a parking space. Getting nervous about missing start. Get a space 30m from the stage door and head off round to the front. Group of dazed people with shocked looks on their faces pass by. But hey, this is Dundee so think nothing of it - until I overhear the word CANCELLED. Caird Hall has Quite an imposing sandstone frontage and as I headed for the door John O'Brien, phone to ear, as he sends the news to vivaroxymusic.com calls me over. Yep, its true. Go to lay claim to my ticket so that I can get a refund and on my return the familiar faces now include the dapper John Fulton (JFRoxy), Alan Mc, and the far travelled Iris and hubby Sam. After a bit of communal teeth gnashing and wailing it was off to a rather empty pub amid much speculation about Aberdeen as most of the aforementioned had accomodation and tickets for the whole Scottish leg. Seemingly Jim Lawn had appeared on stage at 8:45 after the support to announce no show. The Great Man may have been full of good intent, but there were still a lot of out of pocket, inconvenienced people and an earlier call may have been appropriate. So some sympathies with Thom's view since the signs were there on Monday at Birmingham (says Iris) and Tuesday and Thursday were cancelled - so not quite so sudden Kari. From a personal perspective I had a hour in pleasant company sipping Coke before hitting the road for the return 85 miles. And to think my friends/family/colleagues thought I was a nutter BEFORE I went - they'll have a good old laugh at my expense on this one! Still I wouldn't be seeing the revised line-up on this tour. No Woolly Bully or Goodnight Irene at any I have attended. As I passed the stage door I called to one of the roadies and asked about Aberdeen. "it should go ahead... possibly". By the time I got home at midnight the word was out on the list. Cancelled.. So except for the Glasgow gathering, see you all next tour. Glasgow will, of course, be due a double visit. Right? (And I, of course, will be there both nights) Best regards. I personally was more interested in Bryan's health than thinking of a refund. In fact I didn't think of it until you mentioned it. You also said you were too ill to go, let's say rumbling appendix, but had you been fairly "alright" up 'til 8.45 and took a turn for the worse, would you have stayed or made a hasty retreat? I think you'd have done the same thing in trying to stick it out 'til the last minute. Then again, I'm only going by what I'd have done, and what Bryan DID do. The man is to be more admired than criticised for his actions.
