Thank goodness to hear some sense spoken on this much overrated topic, its so bloody boring. More than that, it seems it's mostly those single women that are doing all the moaning about poor Bryan and how his pride has kept him from speaking out sooner. Then Jerry gets dragged into the argument; what has she got to do with any of it, she's history, long forgotten. Does anyone really believe Ferry gives a damn about her! To imply that going with someone for 18 months warrants twenty years of longing/yearning is madness. Let it drop so that we can get back to what is important.........the music! I think we talk an awful lot about Ferry. I'm not too interested in his personal life, or any of the band members personal lives (Although I am interested in Phil because he's cute :-)). I'm interested in concert reviews and aspects of RM/BF's sound, but not exclusively. Here is what I am really interested in talking about: 1. The seventies vis a vis Roxy Music. To me, their sound and image is not about the 30s or 40s. Rather it is all about the 70s, the last era which I consider people to have been interested in the decade they were living in, and not some other decade, and the last era which I consider glamour to have existed without self-consciousness. 2. Roxy Music and nostalgia (why RM makes people think of the 30s or 40s or 70s or some other time) 3. The seventies glamour lifestyle (Helmut Newton, euro-disco, fancy hotels, models, europe) and how this converged with punk and other movements which questioned glamour but then became what they questioned via MTV, fashion, etc. 4. The idea of glamour and materialism in Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry's images and sound. 5. Art that influenced them - Duchamp, Richard Hamilton, etc 6. I love hearing anyones stories about Roxy Music in the 70s and 80s. Since they're not on the video compilation, does anybody have the videos MTT, Avalon and JG that they can kindly tape for me? I'm in California. Will gladly pay for postage etc. Mike Daniel Atterbom wrote:Ok, IMHO this is not a list of about a dead dog (although we miss him), nor a list on divorce (I have not gone through one and do not intend to). But this is a list on everything Roxy. And today's topic is videos. I watched the video to More then this on VH1 classic and really liked it. 37 year old Bryan looking true to form .Phil Manzanera stylish as ever. So: Which Roxy & solo video is the best? Which Roxy & solo video is the worst? My votes will be in later. That's what you get for seeing a band from Western Sweden... :-) A lot of bands play too loud. >Anyone have results with earplugs? Yes, a regular pair from the drugstore helped me at a recent Aimee Mann concert, but I only average 1-2 shows a year. NP Barbados, Bye bye. They looked quite pretty, and they said they would filter out any unwanted noise, but I presume they also might filter out the noise you want to hear. My suggestion: Don't use earplugs, just listen to the shows of your liking from outside (with that volume you should be able to hear them, and, another bonus, you will also be able to save on ticket prices).
