I must confess that I'm quite offended by that certain "snobbery" element that's being attached to the above. Perhaps you haven't noticed but will now look for it and see the hypocricy?! For those of us who came in at the beginning and found Roxy Music to be a new and exciting experience in our musical lives found Avalon to signal the demise of what we had come to expect from RM. The same goes for Mamouna, with Ferry losing what had normally been fantastic solo work. Through the years, nothing special 'til Frantic! I have seen fans who would have thrown these albums on the fire suddenly raise their arms and shout about how great they are, and that the rest of us "don't get it"! Well, I don't and I never will no matter how often I try to "experience" these albums. _____________________________________________________________ http://www.lovemail.co.uk _____________________________________________________________ Select your own custom email address for FREE! The 57-year-old Roxy Music frontman has been dating 21-year-old backing singer Katie Turner since splitting with Miss Helmore last year. After 20 years of marriage, Miss Helmore wants their #6million London home and a further #250,000 a year to help pay for their children to continue their education at Eton. The settlement is likely to be one of the biggest in British legal history, eclipsing the #7million paid by Mick Jagger to his former wife Jerry Hall. But Ferry, who is worth an estimated #30million, is expected to dispute the size of the claim. A friend of the star said: 'He wants to be as fair as possible. But he thinks Lucy's claim is over the top. 'Lucy is not only after the house in Chelsea, but #250,000 a year so she can keep the lavish lifestyle she is accustomed to. Bryan figures that by the time he retires this deal will have cost him #10million.' Ferry, who was once dumped by Miss Hall for Jagger, married society beauty Miss Helmore in 1982. Last September, just weeks after Miss Helmore revealed their marriage was over, Ferry began dating Miss Turner, whose previous jobs include a part in the stage show 42nd Street and a stint as a cruise ship dancer. They met when she joined him for a series of Roxy Music reunion concerts last year. His 42-year- old wife admitted at the time: 'We have drifted apart.' The couple own homes in Sussex and New York as well as London. They have four sons, three of whom are still at Eton. Their eldest son is 20. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Mar 2003 22:15:22 -0500 From: "Keith Shockley" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Frantic - 1 year - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Friday, March 14, 2003 8:05 AM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Frantic - 1 year I'm an American and Avalon is my least favorite Roxy Music album. A lost age of the Romantic Warrior. Some Americans idolize the English way of life that is represented through poetry, art and literature. The troubadour spirit of the Anglophile. The music is very honest and accessible, yet atmospheric and textural at the same time. There is a breadth of truth and spirit in the lyrical content. A sense that the storyteller has traveled through some dark, heavy turmoil to find clarity, love and understanding. A bittersweet journey of the soul. Exileration, freedom, wonder and awe at the amazing discovery of what the future may hold and sadness and longing over the missed opportunities of the past. The music is just splendid. When I hear it I feel good. And isn't that the point? As I listen to Avalon I'm transported to my most sensual self...dancing, dreamy, magically & beautifully transformed. This must be heaven cause it feels so good, Karin ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V8 #73 *************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
