Ever wonder what would Ferrys career would be like now if his best and most successful record, Boys and Girls, had been properly followed up ? It still annoys me that taking so long to get Bete Noire out, and then mixing himself into oblivion, cost him so much in profile and financial terms. There are those who feel this shouldn't matter, and artitistic integrity is all. Which would be fine if Bete Noire (or Mamouna for that matter) had turned out to be a ground breaking album of take your breath away brilliance. Not that it's bad or anything, but the mix is surely suspect. Seems to me that by constantly touring Ferry is almost trying to re- establish the ground he lost with Bete Noire and never recovered. He wouldn't tour Boys and Girls and if memory serves me correctly I saw Ferry in Glasgow Dec 1988 - over a year after Bete Noire had come out. If today was Friday tomorrow would be Saturday I know, but just imagine what could have been had Frantic followed the year after Boys and Girls. Followed by as Time Goes By and Horoscope. Final thing sorry to bang on - did anyone else notice that the rather negative London Evening Review interview which went on about suicide and Jerry Hall happened in the same Sanderson hotel on the same day as the positive "coolest living Englishman" article which appeared in the Telegraph ? These journalists should do some homework before interviewing him, and quit asking about tat that happened in 1978. I think it's quite funny to imagine someone he hasn't taken to being almost completely blanked ever so politely, especially when he does it by pretending he hasn't finished when they start to speak. __________________________________________________________________________ Freeserve AnyTime - Go online whenever you want for just #6.99 a month for your first 3 months, that's HALF PRICE! When I was 8 when the Beatlles were the rage, my little girlfriends and I would create instruments in the garage and pretend we were the Beatles. Mary Ann was the oldest and demanded to be Paul, Chickie (Nancy) was Ringo because she looked like him, I was John as I was the most creative and intelligent (occasionally I doubled as George when he was needed.) I also produced and directed some fabulous backyard plays. Feeling cheeky, Karin ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2003 09:18:17 -0800 From: "Karin Whitney" Subject: [AVALON] Fw: Luxury Sex - ----- Original Message ----- From: Karin Whitney To: KWil632057@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2003 9:17 AM Subject: Luxury Sex What actually is this "Luxury Sex" supplement in Arena Magazine? Funny you should bring this up, I was just reading a very nice article discussing it! - a 'review' about the subject exposed in a book written by Thomas W. Laqueur "Solitary Sex" (Zone Books)! John, I'm sure it is because of your posting we can read good news at bryanferry.com today!: 'At the end of the 'Frantic' tour we will start work on the next studio album but it is too early to speculate what it will sound like and when it will be released. There are a number of ideas around of what direction it might take and we are keen to get the sessions started as soon as possible.' But we can at least hope for a tango, can't we? 'BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - El cantante inglis Bryan Ferry pass por Buenos Aires para hechizar con su mzsica al pzblico argentino, y antes de partir dijo que le encantarma incluir un tango en un futuro album."Me encantarma. Hacer una pieza de puro tango serma muy lindo", dijo el mzsico de 57 aqos en una reciente entrevista con Reuters.' ..and I can't wait to know if there will be a single little song from my one and only Roxy concert...the one in Copenhagen 18.September 2001!!! 'We now have the mixes back for the live Roxy Music album and I'm progressing credits and label copy for release. The artwork is nearly finished as well so everything looks set for the final release date in May. I'll post the running order, venues etc. when we have final approval.' Hello All, I was watching the American Soundtrack show on folk music. Opened with Judy Collins doing Both Sides Now, not BEB although.......if you look really fast you will see it was Zev Katz playing bass. For anybody interested, My home away from home the Hiller Aviation Museum might be visited by the BBC show Treasure Hunt on Friday morning. We got a call that they might be flying a helicopter in and landing on our compass rose, film for a few minutes and then depart. I don't know anything about the show, but if anybody sees it the 747 section sitting next to the museum it's a retired British Air aircraft. Just for fun I think I'll wear my Roxy Music baseball cap and my Levi jean jacket with the Union Jack sewn into the back panel. Anybody with some information contact me off list. Wonder if they are just riding on the name or if they were named after the band. Cecilia?
