Real chicken-in-a-basket territory. But what's this - the same old numbers and only one encore song (LST). And is it just me, or is Louise Peacock made of finest teak? ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Mar 2003 11:15:35 -0000 From: "Jane Collard" Subject: [AVALON] Guildford - some random thoughts A few quick comments on last night's show... Bryan on stage at 9pm Short set (only 90 minutes) - as already reported, only one encore (LST), and no new songs - apart from starting with Julia's harp solo (Chanson dans la Nuit), bringing back memories of the ATGB tour. Band on good form and Bryan singing well. No dancers (so no red feathers in Strand!) Opinion on the new backing singers was divided, but once they got into it and the mix was corrected, I thought they were pretty strong (although 2 were doing the job that Sarah Brown managed before) Louise Peacock - OK, she hasn't got Lucy's personality (yet) but it was her first gig, she performed well and looked genuinely (and shyly) thrilled by her applause at the end. Oh - and Martina Sorbara as support wasn't bad (wouldn't normally have listened but we didn't want to move from our front centre pole position!). Best wishes Jane ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Mar 2003 15:11:53 -0500 From: "Arnold Schulberg" Subject: RE: [AVALON] Surreal Roxy Moments I would love to have seen the looks on their faces as they mixed and mastered "Out of the Blue". That last one always raises the hairs on the back of my neck. Ditto for me. OOTB is my favorite Roxy song and Edwin's violin solo just caps it off. Every time I hear it, it makes me feel as though I'm flying above the earth with no wings. I put my headphones on to listen to every note. Just brilliant production on this one ( as is with the rest of Country Life. For me they peaked at this album with OOTB the absolute best. The mix on the Bogus Man is another highlight. Dense production, but oh the pleasures to be heard. Best heard with headphones. The live version is a killer too. I have no problem w/ Norah winning so many awards but the highlight of the show, for me at least, was the all-star "tribute" to The Clash.
