Over time I tend to judge the quality of Ferry and Roxy Albums by how often I go back and listen to them after a while. And Frantic hasn't come off the playlist yet. There are good songs on here, plenty of energy, only spoiled in parts by the guitar (eg the pointless end to Fool for Love). If "I thought" ended a Roxy album like For Your Pleasure it would be considered a classic. Cruel, particularly the unsanitized Alphaville version, is a powerful track as well. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to recent events. A man who wryly observed that he wasn't ok after the mid air trauma beacuse he looked "bloody awful" in the pictures can't be all that pleased with recent shots. Or the general publicity which hasn't been that favourable. I'm also not sure how the ticket sales are going for this tour, Leas Cliff Hall Folkestone wasn't sold out the last I heard. Whilst I'm delighted he's touring again so soon at some stage he could do with getting back into the studio. This would provide some interest in terms of new material to sustain more touring if thats what he wants to do. I guess you could say Paul Revere laid the precedent for Bryan's gaucho outfit. I wonder if any of them went on to be in other decent bands. I know "Paul Revere" just stayed on the oldies circuit. I'm not sure if he was who was writing the songs or what, but whoever that was was certainly good enough that they could have done something other than rest on their laurels, I'd think. Frantic has held up for me as well. Certain copy cuts fall out of favor, but the originals are all holding up well. I think especially when you consider it was sort of pieced together over several years' archives, it came out really strong. I'm ready to see him back in the studio as well, except that's putting the cart before the horse. I want to see some recently written originals taken to the studio, and Bryan keeps saying in interviews, in essence, that he isn't enjoying lyric writing anymore. Writing is still the most important thing, and I hate to see a wordmaster like Bryan get blocked for any length of time. I may like him doing someone else's lyrics sometimes, but I'm not really interested in what's in, for example, Dave Stewart's head, I want to know what's in Bryan's these days. He's certainly had a busy couple of years on all fronts, and it seems like that should bode well for having things to write about, even if it was only a vehicle to take a musical shot at the paparrazi press! On that subject, I try to read most of what is written about Bryan, and he's had some wonderful press this year. For every 30 articles, maybe there is one bad or lukewarm one. His separation spawned one really nasty piece of slander by someone who anyone paying attention already knew was a purported press allie of Lucy's, though I doubt she would have sanctioned that sort of gratuitous and condescending skewering, as it clearly reflected the jealous ravings of the socially insecure. I'm afraid if Bryan is going to be able to loll on the beach undisturbed, he is going to have to give up the high-profile resorts, which are always crawling with trawlers, and go for a less ostentatious quaint and quiet locale where celebrities are not the norm. The room won't be as nice, but the beach will be just as good or better. From there, he can charter a boat to a deserted island for the day and run about in nothing but his toe hair if he'd like, and perhaps take a moment to jot down a few lines as he breathes the salt air and stares at the infinite horizon of blue.
