Having read some of the postings concerning the release of the new Roxy live album I noticed that most people wish that Viva had been issued as a double album it was originally conceived. I like many on this list rate Viva as one of my favourite live albums, however I do wonder if I would have enjoyed it as much as a double. The beauty of Viva for me was that there are no tracks that I want to by-pass to get to the next track that I really want to hear,a problem I've had with most live albums over the years. In fact I'd go as far as to say that most studio double albums are in the same boat, from personal experience I found that most folk tend to favour one disk over an other in a double package and tend not to listen to the other very often causing the over all package to lack punch. Now that is something that could never be said of Viva. Perhaps my views on this are fashioned by the fact that when I bought most of my records pre-cd days, so it was a bit of a chore to have to physically move the arm to the desired track a problem solved by the arrival of the cd, indeed quite a few of the old double albums could now fit on to a single cd. In the case of Viva I now feel that is time for it to be re-issued with the originally planned track listing restored, even if it were to be done as a limited edition. Who knows if I'd like it as much as I do the version that we have had for the last 28 years, but I would like to find out. I'm not going to try and second guess if I'll like the new live album as much as I do Viva, but it will definitely be better than the Heart Still Beating album which at best is pretty poor. It doesn't have much going for it, the sound is poor and the band were coming to a fairly sad end. I always expected to hear this album in hotels lifts as it was more like Roxy Musak. Hell even the cover was crap, to this day it is by far the least played Roxy album in my collection, I didn't even bother buying the card sleeved re-issue when I bought the others. Even the independantly released Concert Classics album with it's poor sound quality was better than Heart Still Beating, at least the material and arrangements sounded like Roxy. Hoping for a well produced and packaged 2001 live album. Tom. Back to "Viva," I remember reading an interview with BF, in the Melody Maker, where he says that the album was indeed intended to be a double. One of the songs they left off was a version of "Three and Nine," which pissed Mackay off so much he barely took anything to do with the albums release. I wonder what other tracks would have been included in the double LP?
