It would be nice to think that the set-list will change, somehow I don't think it will greatly though unless there is some sort of secret album release that we don't know about. The "Spitting Image" of Bryan Ferry, smugly cavorting with a well-drunk Princess Margaret at the Royals' dinner table, is my first recollection of said homme. Opening an episode of "Miami Vice", a pool party scene provided my second recollection of Mr. Ferry's existence. (That in turn jarred a totally forgotten first intro to the Ferry world of music - "Roxy", an American group, not to be confused with an 'avant-garde' British group, "Roxy Music". - - Reggae affectionner of the time, I was too reefed to listen: Alcohol, toots, Belizian herb and hand-rubbed Afghan 'elephant ears' totally consumed my attention. That 'recollection' then triggered acknowledgment of my very first Ferry encounter - 1974 a tried to be seducer played "For Your Pleasure" and it was not my pleasure so he took the album off the turntable somewhere during the second song. Once again, my current lifestyle preferences prevailed.) The errie Tango background music appealed to my ear and sense of mystery and intrigue. Must read credits. Viola - "Bete Noire" by Bryan Ferry. Bryan Ferry? hmm, don't know him. My 'third' encounter with his work occurred while watching "SKY" TV. A music video - oh look, it's Jerry Hall! - music's OK, but who's the 'goof' in white with penciled facial hair? What!? Bryan Ferry!? Weird. The music's OK, maybe I'll look next time I'm at the record shop, - maybe get the album with "Bete Noire". The final push sending me to the record shop to purchase a Bryan Ferry album came, once again, from "Miami Vice" (to this day, I've no outside confirmation that this song played background to any scenes of this TV series. Did I imagine it?). "Angel Eyes" sparkled, danced and soared off the airwaves. I was hooked - for life. Doomed to purchase, listen, gyrate, dream, analyze, ruminate, speculate, praise and complain about Ferry and all related matters that really have nothing to do with me, for the remainder of the days I walk this earth. And God willing, may there be a Ferry in Heaven, in the room next door. Preferably one that will perform on demand. Perhaps one who will find new work forever tumbling out of his mind, spilling onto the pages, a new song and lyric always at hand. Only the very good musicians residing there dare tread with Ferry. Carry me and every good soul beyond the River Styx, beyond Charon's boat. Out of the wilderness, into the light. There I wish to bask with fellow spirits. - A 'Lifer'. Best wishes for all. K.B.Porter PS - Thumbs down on Shania Twain. All her music sounds the same. PPS - Stephen, I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune - may your future career path take you to new happy horizons. PPPS - Was there really any question that Colleen would leave? No way! She's too strong a person to be put off by measly hecklers. You go, Girl! PPPPS - Happy Belated Holidays to All! Hi, hope I find you all well and happy as you can be. Just some thoughts, no-one should take any offence, 'cos none is intended! Great to get new BF dates. I couldn't afford travel to any of the last round of gigs, would have have to have saved hard, but could just about afford a ticket, (No one I know would go to a BF gig, so...solo!) But now! A very local show comes up, and I shall go to the ball! For me, it's great news, I'm a true and avid fan, but if I can't afford it, I don't loose sleep just because I might miss a song I have'nt heard live before. I can think of NO better event this year than ATAP2, but I just can't afford it, but I wish all attendees a FANTASTIC time! I believe the set list will change by 40-50% for various reasons; BF's desire to keep it fresh, a desire for re-interpretation, visit un-trodden live paths, etc...and he knows full well his audiance is finite, and may be visiting this tour a number of times. Also, it's just good fun for him. I don't forget the fact that he's getting older, time remaining gets shorter, and hell! he might not be as unsure of himself and as angst ridden as he once was. One last thing, how have members of this list heard Alphaville? Never heard a thing from it myself, as C says, trading and selling not allowed. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html US ticket sale info: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ (updated weekly) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2003 19:10:19 -0000 From: "Rob Whiteford" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Tickets And I can't believe FOLKESTONE LEAS CLIFF HALL. Woohooo!! Good news but I would have loved the Glasgow show to be on a Friday or Saturday (wouldn't we all!!) Nevertheless it will be interesting to see the Fezmeister at a new venue in Glasgow. I hope it's a "dancing" type of venue. As the article below says, they hope the venue will be open by March! It bloody better be! Cheers the noo Stevie p.s. I had a feeling that he might have played Barrowlands this time. Quack Quack Ooops! - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - -------------------------------------------------- NEW VENUE FOR GLASGOW A new music venue is to open in GLASGOW - run by the same company who own the BRIXTON ACADEMY in LONDON. The 2,500 capacity Glasgow Academy will be housed in the New Bedford Cinema, 121 Eglington Street, Glasgow. The company who have bought it, McKenzie Group Limited, hope the venue will be open by March 2003. They also own London Brixton Academy, Birmingham Academy and Bristol Academy, as well as the London Shepherds Bush Empire. Before becoming the Glasgow Academy, the New Bedford was a cinema, opening in 1921. It has been closed for the last ten years. Managing Director John Northcote said: "The latest Academy will deliver the same exciting and vibrant diary of rock, pop, jazz, indie and dance, plus we will be working closely with leading Scottish promoters DF Concerts who have an excellent local knowledge." Geoff Ellis from DF Concerts added; "We are very excited about the Glasgow Academy and feel that it will be a very successful and welcome addition to the buoyant concert market in Glasgow. We look forward to the opportunity of bringing more concerts to Glasgow and feel that the venue's capacity is ideal and fills a significant gap in the market." ----- Original Message ----- From: Colette Robertson To: GerryWelsh@vivaroxymusic.com ; jigd@whsmithnet.co.uk ; roxysmithy@hotmail.com ; stephen.scott.1@blueyonder.co.uk Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 8:15 PM Subject: Scottish Dates!! But there is probably as much chance of that happening as there is of my getting my Ticketbastard handling fees back when the show id officially cancelled. But for now, I'll jusyt hang on to my 6th row center seats and hope.................
