She's not being overly stringent about this. Whether it was intentional or merely meant to be funny and self-deprecating, it's a subject widely known to be controversial and emotional and many people would find the sentiments hurtful to some degree. Maybe those things are best said in private to people you know won't be offended by it. That doesn't mean I dislike the people who took it there either, because I don't at all and I hope they won't be offended by my opinion on this. Inferring that someone is a Nazi when they are only being a responsible list owner seems awfully unfair. It's not like she condemned anyone. She just said it's gone far enough. I am also proud to divulge that I count many gay and lesbians amongst my closest friends, and anyone who knows me will testify to my support in fighting gay issues and my tireless endeavour to equal rights for my gay friends. Having been brought up on Shakespeare and with an appreciation for his love sonnets, I am only speaking of my personal feelings, in the matter of how Shakespeare's words relate to me, This was not intended to offended any practising Homosexual or Lesbians that are a member of the Forum. if my words have caused offence that I would like to apologise........If you knew me you would know that I would never purposely offend any of you with regrets Mark. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Colleen Matan" To: "Mark Yates" Cc: Sent: Monday, December 16, 2002 9:15 PM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Shakespeare Sonnet 18 > On Mon, 16 Dec 2002, Mark Yates wrote: > > > > > > > I Prefer the theory that it was written for either Mary Fitton or Emilia > > Lanier...........The thought of such a great work being written for a > > man is enough to put you off reading or in Ferry's case listening to it > > for life. > > OK, before this gets any uglier: this is unacceptable.
