While I was quite taken with Rod's work up untilabout 1980, I have thought of his eighties and nineties output as opportunistic carpetbagging. There are so many examples of him taking another artists worthwhile song (Tom Waits' "Downtown Train" springs to mind) and turning them into bloodless pop music, that he has a reputation in some circles for scouring other artsists play lists or songs to ruin. When he was spotted at a Richard Thompson concert some years back, there was a discussion on the RT list as to what favourite song would we sacrifice to Rod in order to make Richard some real money--the implied thought being that apres Rod the song would be unlistenable for several years.... No, I think Rod is capitolizing on Bryan's resurgance. - --Andrew in Chicago ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html US ticket sale info: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ (updated weekly) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Dec 2002 15:27:15 -0000 From: "terrypaulrigz8c" Subject: Re: [AVALON] The Only Face/Jools Holland - ----- Original Message ----- From: Subject: [AVALON] The Only Face/Jools Holland > I just got the new Jools Holland album yesterday with the new version of The > Only Face. Agreed, diaries allowing it could be done and in the can in a couple of weeks. Can add "To turn you on" & "Another Time, Another Place" to those suggestions, Jools would do a great job of the middle section of AT,AP.
