["eRacerX" Hey did anyone see Rod Stewart on the American cable show A & E? Bryan's > versions of the old classics are far superior by far. > > the 2 cannot be compared. Rod is a great rock n roller, however, I heard some of Rod's crooning and I don't like it. He just doesn't have the "crooning" style that our Bryan does. I could listen to Bryan perform songs from "As Time Goes By" endlessly. But Rod tried. Gotta give him that much. Subject: [AVALON] Re: A&E I too saw Rod Stewart but I have to admit that I enjoyed the show. Bryan no doubt has the better voice but you can't take away the fact that Rod did a great job. His ability to capture the essence of the great old songs with the big band feel. The fact that a lot went into that show. I looked at it as someone offering up the old nostalgia tunes the way they use to come across with the big band sound the showmanship of the era. When one just stands & croons you need more & all the other came across quite well. Two totally different styles but hey, give the guy credit , the tails, the glamour of the set made what he set out to do all the more for a good deliverance. Something that we all know but sometime we don't want to admit -- Bryan is not delivering his message as well. Bryan is the suave, cool, nice looking , so why doesn't he deliver more. Face it drop all the feathers & boa dancers he doesn't need them. If anything go for the Ginger Rogers type, flowing sexy gowns. I'm tired of the same old shows put new life in them, don't be afraid to step out of the box Bryan!!!! And as you put it there is some kind of "fate" (or 'mystery') in the Chance Meetings we have with those who will be influential in our lives. I could listen to Bryan perform songs from "As Time Goes By" endlessly. But Rod tried. Gotta give him that much. Eileen in Kew Gardens Yes I agree Eileen,I caught the show by accident actually. I've been a lifelong fan of Stewart/Faces and have seen him perform live countless times. Once upon a time I would have slashed my wrists if I had missed a performance or interview with him on TV, but I'm pleased to say those days are over! The last time I saw him live was about four years ago at a corporate event in Vegas and that will probably be the last time. I know he's had his problems with his throat and I'm sure that has changed his vocal style, but I just feel he can't sing anymore. He may well have many more years in him as a performer, but It will be talking his way through songs along the style of Sinatra.Rod has always been a great Ballad singer and his albums are full of beautiful songs that sadly never see the light of day. No doubt the Album will be a great success and leave ATGB but a fond memory for this years Xmas stocking. He can still sing. For Rod, this was a natural move. He has always quoted Al Jolson as being his earliest influence, and so this was an Album I was expecting to happen sooner or later. I would rather have seen his do an Album of Billie Holiday covers (as I think they would suit his style and possibly open the door to a new generation of Billie Holiday listeners) Unlike Ferry, Rod has always enjoyed a high profile. That's very much his choice I believe, and he has never shunned publicity.Having a great PR machine and a half decent product will pretty much guarantee you sucess. There is no disputing the talent of either, they are just different artists after a piece of the same Pie. Regards, DM well I'm drunk today........ Oh, and I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Xmas and good luck for the New Year.(More than a few of us need the good luck!) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html US ticket sale info: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ (updated weekly) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 13:55:19 EST From: KRNCHSE@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re:A&E&R&B In a message dated 12/12/02 1:39:33 PM Eastern Standard Time, KRNCHSE@aol.com writes: > He can still sing > Oops! I saw mention of R and B in today's Times Online: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,585-511455,00.html Rod the Mod sings for Old Farts: why, Rod, why? And if you had to do it, couldnt you have done it better? Why, just off the top of my head I can think of two recycled golden mouldies that knock liver spots off this: Bryan Ferrys deathless tribute to the songs of his youth, These Foolish Things (Island) and Peter Skellerns Astaire (Mercury), breathy vocals, brass band and all. Albums that make growing old seem almost a pleasure. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "eRacerX" Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 14:41:12 -0500 To: Subject: RE: [AVALON] Re: Rod vs Bryan - Unfair to be judged by members of this list! > >>Bryan's versions of the old classics are far superior by far. > > >the 2 cannot be compared. > > True - can any lister - any person alive - imagine BF's version of > 'Do You Think I'm Sexy' ?!?!
