Let's see, my wife watched Hitchcock's 39 steps and liked it. My childhood friend, a lawyer, said that Frantic was one of the best albums he'd heard all year. It was as though Bryan was completing a circle from last year's Roxy Music tour, but where that concert had ended with each person leaving the stage one by one during For Your Pleasure, this concert added more and more people during each song.So it began ever so quietly with Bryan(piano) and string siren Lucy(violin) doing The Only Face, with images of a Havana Moon pushing away any memory of the outside monsoon;piano master Colin came on for Don't Think Twice, moving Bryan out in front where he received a big cheer;harp goddess Julia lit up the stage for Falling In Love Again. The seemingly unemotional Chris Spedding joined the crew next, and though he might appear to have a dour front, one sees that the full range of emotions are there,Chris has channeled them into his guitar, showcasing the heartbreak of Carrickfergus. Will you Love me Tomorrow and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes were segued together-I was confused,I didn't know when to clap. But it is at this point that your humble narrator must explain the nature of his complete disorientation-due to the excellent early warning system provided by this mailing list,I had been able to get quite the seat. When I had arrived at the venue, the usher had looked at my ticket and remarked"Oh that's the golden seat,go right up front!" And so it is possible for the lowly fan, without recourse to the Babylonian tickets scalpers, can go up against the TicketMaster monster, and like Richard the Lionhearted himself, can procure the fair maiden of a front row seat! So there I was-enamored with a childish glee at every nuance I could drink in,I had arrived with pencil and paper to make notes-but these tools of the objective observer remained in my coat,as a Dionysian revelry took hold. I am aware that at some point before "The Rapture" Iain Dixon had come on -for he made My One and Only Love and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes so beautiful .And I know that The Great Paul Thompson was on before "The Rapture",for I remember cheering his entrance. Bryan had left during the lovely instrumental, but they were all on for "The Rapture"-Mark Smith on bass,Mick Green on guitar,Sarah Brown,to Bryan's left,Anna Vollands and Katie Turner to his right-yes,they were all on stage for the rapturous The Thrill of It All. I saw a man with a turtleneck sweater to my right start to stand with me-we gave each other the confidence that yes, that moment has arrived. And for once a Boston audience did not disappoint-I turned behind me to see graybeards join with the classily dressed, join with the Playboy t-shirted gorgeous 20-ish blonde(and her yummy girlfriend)-and we all were standing. And another blonde rushed the front, and no attempt was made for restraint. The Theatre was ours. And we were dancing.--to be continued ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html US ticket sale info: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ (updated weekly) ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V7 #376 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
