I was really amazed to find that I thought the "Frantic" tour versions were vastly superior. All the songs on that video sound like loose approximations of the originals, with miscellaneous funky riffs added and crashing drums hoyed in, more or less randomly. From the front row in Newcastle I watched Julia's performance on percussion during Boys and Girls. She obviously had quite a technical part, switching constantly between different intruments and playing a carefully worked out arrangement. The percussionist on the video just seemed to shake something all the way through. My impression on the video was that everyone was posing. None of the performers seemed to look at each other. That blonde guitarist with the ridiculous fringe (Neil Hubbard?) was in his own little world. Ferry looked a bit puffy in the face, and he was still heavily into his air-guitar waddle dance (has he been hypnotised out of it, by the way?). Really.......it was terrible. The Frantic band, on the other hand, seemed really tight and well rehearsed, looking at each other, standing near each other and well integrated. Arrangements and sound far, far better and posing restricted to El Grande Fromage. And he looks a lot better now, in my humble........ So well done!! Martin. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html US ticket sale info: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ (updated weekly) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Nov 2002 11:16:20 -0000 From: "terrypaulrigz8c" Subject: Re: [AVALON] New Town performances vs. Frantic tour Anybody know if there are plansto film any of this tour?, Could we be treated to another Hammersith Odeon finale'. Yes, it bogs down at 3&9 (although that Farfisa roller-skating organ moves it along) and at Triptych but Stranded is a great album that comes to a screeching halt at Sunset and Psalm. Those two songs have their good points (especially the cello on Sunset) but they just wreck the energy of the rest of the album.
