If you go to the cc.com website, you'll find him listed there, under "B" for Bryan Ferry, just like you'd expect (??!!). Why only 4 shows? Beats me. Could be a contract with the particular venues. But if they were handling the whole tour, there's no guarantee the publicity would be any better. They're handling Peter Gabriel's tour, and aside from one relatively small newspaper ad when the tickets first went on sale, there's been nary a peep about it since. Sad -- but true -- I think both Bryan and Peter fall in their second priority (or lower?) of tours: they don't expect huge ticket sales, and aren't going to invest much money in promotion. We can protest that until the cows come home, but their accounting office isn't going to listen. Bryan Ferry, man of contrasts Alain De Repentigny The Press Photo Alain Roberge, The Press The very new spectacle of Bryan Ferry is a 30 years overflight of career solo with precedes of them five or six songs of Roxy Music. It has been already eight years that Bryan Ferry sang in Montreal. The British artist returns to us Saturday in a room which sied well with its elegance and its refinement, the Maisonneuve theatre of the Place of Arts. The last time that one saw it in Montreal, in Saint-Denis in November 1994, Bryan Ferry had just launched Taxi , an album of songs borrowed on the left and on the right, one of its specialities. Since, it served Mamouna to us , a disc of songs of its vintage, Have Time Goes By , collection the traditional ones of the Thirties, then, this year, Frantic , a very successful mixture of loans and original compositions. But unless going to Toronto - or getting the DVD-witnesses ( Bryan Ferry Live At Large Rex and Roxy Music Live At the Apollo ) - its fans montrialais could not see the very beautiful spectacle of the round Have Time Goes By in 1999 nor the energetic reunion of Roxy Music last year. Its very new spectacle is a 30 years overflight of career solo with precedes of them five or six songs of Roxy Music. A formula which likes to artist the 57 year old and who, in an ideal world, would alternate continuously with the more ambitious spectacle and more rock' roll of Roxy Music. "what I like of the current spectacle, it is that the soloists have more space to express themselves, told us Ferry yesterday morning his hotel room in New York. At the beginning, I am alone with the piano then, gradually, I find myself surrounded by 12 musicians. The repertory being varied more than with Roxy, the musicians touch with all. I must say that (the guitarist) Phil Manzanera and (the saxophonist) Andy Mackay played very well at the time of the round of Roxy Music, them which had not given many spectacles these last years. But the change is very refreshing. It is besides one of the characteristics of my career, that never becomes tedious. The more my career solo lengthens, the more it is varied." Negro music The mark of trade of the albums solo of Ferry was always its loans as astonishing as successful with the repertory of artists established and this, since its very first album where cttoyaient the standard These Foolish Things , the hyper pop It' S My Party of Lesley Gore, Sympathy for the Devil of Stones and A Hardware Rain' S Gonna Fall de Dylan. In the current spectacle, approximately half of the songs are loans, since Smoke Gets in Your Eyes of Platters until Jealous Guy of John Lennon whom his public claims to him since it endorsed them there is more than 20 years. Ferry likes contrasts and if it always had a preference for the American negro music - it is unconditional of Mary J Blige -, it also has weak for the European song or of the songs of musicals of Broadway. Among the 12 musicians, singers and dancers who accompany it, let us mention the pianist Colin Good, of traditional formation, which has already just like worked with him for a few years the guitarist Chris Spedding, an old lorry driver of the scene and British studios. One will be able to also applaud the ex-Roxy Music Paul Thompson, beater "very physical" whose only presence makes assemble considerably the energy level of a spectacle, and Lucy Wilkins, young person rams extremely talented who plays of the keyboards and the violin. Ferry also recruited the guitarist Mick Green, old of the group Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, which was a guitar hero in England before even Beatlemania and of which rhythmic play and lead strongly influenced quantity of guitarists of which Pete Towshend of Who. These last years, Green played with Van Morrison, Paul McCartney and Peter Green, the survivor of Fleetwood Mac first time. "It is a guitarist very strapping man, known as Ferry, he adds a key hardware to the music." An animated life Bryan Ferry, one said it, failed to lose the life in December 1999. It moved towards Zanzibar for holidays in family when an insane passenger was introduced into the cockpit of the Boeing 747, threatening to make crush the plane. Today, it recognizes readily that this incident made more productive. This year, it still made the cuffs of the British newspapers more often than in its turn. At the time when one announced his separation of with his wife Lucy Hellmore, one showed it storing in Munich in company of his 21 year old chorus-singer, Katie Turner. One spoke also much about his elder sons. Isaac, 16 years, was suspended very silect Eton College to have sent a courriel offending to an anti-bloodsports lobbyist, while his/her brother Otis, 19 years, was stopped by the police force whereas it tried to placard the house of the Prime Minister Tony Blair of posters in favour of hunting. The tabloods benefitted from it to underline with large features the working origins of Ferry which, in spite of its very aristocratic elegance, was born in a family from minors from the North-East from England. Should it nevertheless send its sons to Eton College? Why did it marry a woman of high society, girl of broker of Lloyd' S of London? Shouldn't it rather join again with a woman of its class, Jerry Hall, which had left it to live with Mick Jagger 25 years ago? Did the distinctions of class always belong to British fibre admittedly but... let us be us really in 2002? "It is a little strange, indeed, but it is not the point of view of everyone in England, answers Ferry on an almost amused tone. It is rather the style of the tabloods... - - Except for your two sons about of which all the newspapers spoke. - - Yes, I am losing on the two sides, I suppose... But that does not disturb me at all that one speaks of my modest origins. On the contrary, I am very proud. And what holds the future with Bryan Ferry? A round in South America at the beginning of 2003, the exit of an album live of Roxy Music and a return in studio to spring for its next album solo. "One also will launch, I do not know too much when, the Avalon album (ultra-licked, of Roxy Music, appeared in 1982) remixi with his surround by Bob Clearmountain. I did not hear it yet, but it is said to me that it is very interesting." BRYAN FERRY, in spectacle on November 9, 20h, with the Maisonneuve theatre of the Place of Arts. The January issue with the review of 2002 is available on 5th December. Canadian show to be recorded posted 06.11.02 Bryan's show at the Hummingbird Centre in Toronto on 10th November will be recorded by the CBC Network for broadcast at a date still to be decided. FYI ... at least for now, neither the mich theater (ann arbor), nor the chicago theater have listed any cancellations on their respective websites (including cc.com for ann arbor). this is certainly unfortunate and disconcerting news, though. i can guess what it's regarding, but - a bit funny that it can't be put off ... peaces/ms _______________________________________________________________ Get the FREE email that has everyone talking at http://www.mail2world.com <-----Original Message-----> >From: Chris Turner > >I'm sorry to report that I have heard from a trustworthy friend in the >'States that the Keswick Theater have written to ticket holders >indicating that "a portion" of the tour, and including the Philly date, >will be rescheduled because Ferry has to be in England for "legal >matters". I'm sorry to report that I have heard from a trustworthy friend in the 'States that the Keswick Theater have written to ticket holders indicating that "a portion" of the tour, and including the Philly date, will be rescheduled because Ferry has to be in England for "legal matters". I have no other confirmation of this, although I will make enquiries in the morning on your behalf. Nothing further to report at this time, but I would respectfully suggest that ticket holders contact the venue to check whether the gigs are to go ahead, particularly those dates around the time of the Keswick Theater show. But I have replied to everybody who wrote to me. Or at least I think so. If you are waiting for a reply, please get in touch and I'll make sure you do get one.
