Oddly enough have just been watching the Season 1 Twin Peaks DVD! Great stuff and with some truly excellent special bonus features including 'How to speak in the Red Room'. Jimmy Scott released an album a couple of years back called 'Holding Back The Years' which featured numerous covers including 'Jealous Guy' and 'Slave To Love.' Well worth a listen as that guys voice is simply amazing. They should have got Bryan Ferry to sing in the Black Lodge, would have fit in very well. However, Bowie starred in the film, and his concerts are longer, of course. Jimmy Scott seems to have covered Slave To Love on one of his recent albums, I think. Haven't heard it, though. That being said, ("Little") Jimmy Scott is one of the greatest talents in music (I'd say today, but his career has spanned decades). I had the chance to see him at the Kennedy Center a few years back--just him and the Billy Taylor Trio as part of a long-standing public radio jazz series here in the U.S. Absolutely amazing and I can only imagine what he was like 40 years ago. I had (and still have) the great good fortune to call one of Jimmy Scott's former managers one of my dear friends and have had the chance to hear a lot of very rare stuff (JS sitting in on very late night with Charlie Parker, etc.). You can find his older albums relatively easily these days (I'd skip the more recent stuff [possibly with the exception of _Dream_, which I have a sentimental attachment to]). And Rhino has just released a numbered, limited edition (7500 copies) of _Falling In Love Is Wonderful_, the legendary and extremely rare Tangerine label album he did with Ray Charles in 1962 which released and then pulled out of circulation. I want it played first, to set a gothic tone. The last will be Song for Europe. I think Strictly Confidential is a masterpiece. Even though Beauty Queen is so different lyrically from Strictly Confidential, I've always thought it was more or less married to it. I can't believe I just said that. Now I have to examine it further. For me, the most poignant lines, taking in mind the delivery and surrounding instrumentation, are: "What if I fall?" "Could it be evil thoughts become me?" "Haunting me always are the voices" The imposition of the lines between the lines following "Haunting me always are the voices" and the escalating urgency in the instrumentation and vocals are landmarks of the genius that throws Roxy Music to the top of its art and leaves it there for 30 years. Hi all! It4s not my habbit to send messages to this list but for some reason I want to make an exception. It4s still great to play with Re-make/Re-model, the more gigs we do, the more we feel comfortable to play the RM and BF stuff. Sometimes certain people claim we4re playing just as good as RM and BF. However good the intentions may be, I personally have problems accepting that. To me, it4s good to be ambitious (and I think we are, doing such a crazy thing as a RM/BF tribute). But it would never be my intention to pretend we are (as good as) Roxy Music. We4re still doing a tribute. That means there is (and can be) only one Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry!! Soon you will be informed about the ideas we have about AMA2. Check your post from mr. Reece! Hope to meet you all (again) at AMA2 in 2003. Next time...
