["Paula Brown" Subject: RE: [AVALON] Lonnie Donegan Lonnie Donegan appeared with on Jools Holland's Millennium Hootenanny with Bryan Ferry, with each singing a verse of Leadbelly's 'Midnight Special'. I'm sad to hear of LD's passing, although I know he had suffered with a heart condition for many years. He was an artist that managed 34 UK hits in little more than six years at the birth of British rock, and who was good enough to be covered by Elvis on 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' and to be an influence to The Beatles. John Peel named Donegan as his favourite ever artist. It's a shame that his rather trite comedy songs often overshadowed his great commitment to roots music. I saw him at Glastonbury once, and he could really entertain. Lonnie Donegan's latest (unfinished) tour is called 'This Could Be The Last Time' That's what I call tempting fate. According to the tour website, tonight's show in Bolton is 'to be rearranged' That'll give the promoter a headache. As usual, Keith, you are just so right. Though it wasn't the first impression I had of the first album, it was the inevitable one. And FYP and Stranded aren't albums, they're apparitions. You don't listen to them, you have a siance. Yes, Bryan's mom was right about Max DeWinter. The phrase "a terrible beauty" certainly applies at times, and you note I use present tense. I liked the Twin Peaks soundtrack as well, though I couldn't give you any song titles. I do have Laura's diary, however, buried among other treasures in still incubating library which so badly wants to be born. I didn't vote for Strictly Confidential but I do agree that it's a great song.
