Damn. Having been lucky enough to have attended both the Glasgow and the Edinburgh gigs, I can confirm that the Edinburgh crowd ROCKED last night, putting their Glasgow counterparts to shame big time! I was very apprehensive about seeing Bryan in Edinburgh as I thought the crowd there just wouldn't get it (after all, Glasgow and Bryan/Roxy have that long-standing special 'thing' going) but I was wrong! The stampede to the front took place at the very beginning of the show last night (which took the Avalonian light brigade somewhat aback, I would imagine!) and the place immediately went berserk - everyone on their feet from the word go. Bryan seemed in better form for the quiet section of the show than on Saturday night, when I got the feeling that he was very 'edgy' and a bit subdued. Maybe he was feeling the same as me that that darned Armadillo is not a great place for a concert, it just seems to have no atmosphere, no soul, I can't explain it it just seems to have a sort of dead, empty feeling about it. Sarah Brown was even more superb last night for 'My Only Love' than on Saturday when she was, er, superb! I agree that 'Tara' is now one of the highlights of the show with Speddo's amazingly sensitive guitar just providing the last piece of the jigsaw that was missing in the summer shows, wonderful stuff! TGPT got no less than three huge cheers last night, one midway through the set and two, yes two, at the bit where Bryan introduces the whole band just before the end. He looked so chuffed! And what about that storming extended version of 'Let's stick together' to finish with? I just wished it would never end. I don't know how I will survive now that I have no BF tickets left in my sock drawer and hence, don't know when I am going to see him again, if ever! We have been really spoiled over the past couple of years and it has been so wonderful, last night was just such a high note to end on. I know Bryan needs a rest for a while, but will he tour again? Please God, I hope so! Anyone shine any light on this ?? BTW Riga is a beautiful city and by all accounts it does have a good Roxy/Ferry following there. Edinburgh was fantastic last night, the crowd were at the stage before Bryan had time to sit down at the piano.Look forward to seeing some of you in Newcastle. A great bar for a pre-gig meet up is the Pacific bar,it is just 2 mins from the city hall. Reecy, Diane My stage charging partner,, John O'B Loraine & family, Ivor & a cast of thousand to numerous to mention. A video of the Edinburgh, (gardens) show appeared, no video player available at the hotel, tried to bribe the hotel staff to go to Asda and buy one, found out it would not work with there TV, a little more moaning to the hotel staff and by magic a TV & video were installed in the room, Off to the show, Plush comfy seats and surroundings, the usual faces in the front 3 rows.. The opening 3 or 4 songs ( see setlist vivaroxymusic.com ). something wrong, seats to cumfy atmosphere not up to usual standards ?. Intro Thrill of it All, Stage rush (well saunter) Usual suspects at Bryans feet, John O'B and daughter to my left, My charging partner Diane to my right, then reecy, Ivor and am sure a saw Jane there to With the two Tracy's, Elbows on stage & in Good voice but I think the view of us at the front seemed to but Bryan and the Band of, It seemed a bit rushed and over all to soon, only 8 out of 10 for this show, On came the stage crew to clear up, grabbed one and asked for the bottle of water at the base of TGPT drums (Bryans), He brought 2, yes , Handed me 1 and Tracy (north) the other. S*** mines was full, unopened, Tracy's was half full , Bryan had drunk the other half, Off to the Hotel, A few refreshments in the bar then of to room to watch the Princess St Show. The refreshment Dulls the mind a bit, Han & Esther our Dutch contingent, John O'B & Loraine ( after taking the kids home) Tracy's (north and south) and am sure a couple of others ?. 4.30 am went to bed, left I J O'B ,Loraine & Esther (catching a flight home in about 2 hrs). (was it the drink or the show ?) Water only tonight. Met June, Han, Al, & the 2 Tracy's whom were both sitting with big cheesy grins on there faces, Tracy (north) had managed to get both there tickets signed by Bryan. (Camera next time?). Very cold night and a no Smoking bar, you had to go outside and freeze to have a smoke, Every 10 minutes Tracy (south) June, Reecy and myself nipped out for a much needed cig, Along comes Diane walking down the street, met us at smokers corner, To cold Diane went inside. Shortly after Diane sneaked out the side door ?. She don't smoke and never had her woollies on ?. Went out to have another cig only to find The whole theatre has a no smoking policy and Mr piano, Colin Good standing having a quick puff, The Tracy's managed to get the otherside of there tickets signed and I got a Photo, Thanks Colin. ( I only need Andy now for the full set, any suggestions.?). Pity Bryan has stopped. Bumped into an old friend and his wife in the bar who never knew Bryan was in town, Desperate search for 2 tickets, the versatile John O'Brian found 1, Pleaded at the Sold out box office for another, after a few pleads they found out they had 1 ticket left (amazed, its been sold out for a while,) even more amazed it was FRONT ROW ?. Took our seats, Better venue, uncomfy seats but great atmosphere, Han was singing?, Show starts.on comes Bryan, the rush started before he did and the atmosphere was electric.Got caught out a bit with the early rush but still got elbows on stage right in front of Lucy. Bryan, Lucy and Colin did there pieces, a little pause , saw a shiny gold streak running along the back of TGPT drums, along past Lucy (almost fell) ran on stage to the Harp, it was the Versatile Julia, a little late? (Julia must have ran 40 metres in less than 5 secs) The Thrill of it All, the whole band on stage and the whole audience going wild, does it get any better, YES. Tokyo Joe and Limbo were fantastic, The whole band seemed to be having a great time, feeding of each other, laughing and fooling around, Fantastic, Lucy seemed to have a gremlins with the Violin early on, that did not phase her and put in a great performance. Sarah was Magnificent, I never really noticed before how good she really is. Julia's backing vocals WOW. It just kept getting better and better, the set seemed to go on a lot longer than Glasgow, I think everyone wished they could stay all night, Bryan, Band and audience, every note was perfect every instrument could be heard right down to the scrubbing board ?. Sadly I had to say farewell to friends old and new straight after the show, early start today and driving home. Hope everyone enjoyed the show as much as I did, Till we do it again ?. It's the first I've heard of it, but with Ferry touring the states in November and the release of the Video Collection on DVD in the US I'd put money on a compilation. Tom. When Bryan first came out at Bristol, sitting at the piano, he looked in a bad mood to me, but he became totally expressive and by Falling in Love Again, he was pouring himself into the songs. He really put a lot into that song, passionately and artfully put himself into the lyric. And he seemed very emotional and intense the entire concert, much more so than the comparitively more cut and dried show in Birmingham. He has his on nights, I guess. You think they all are until you see two together like I did at these two and realize how even though on a normal day he's better than everyone else, he still has his moments when he simply transcends himself. You felt you could see the real Bryan as he seemed to lose himself in some of the songs, including Jealous Guy. Like others, I'm a bit tired of it, but he drained himself on that one and shown like the dark angel he is as he let the song play him for all to see. "Time spent well is so rare."
