I take it back. At the RAH last night I really enjoyed "My Only Love", "Jealous Guy", "Slave to love" , "Love is the Drug", "Do the strand" and "Lets Stick Together". I think the Roxy songs were done better here than on last years tour. Ferry may be struggling with some of the material, (Just Like you" an example)- at least he tried. But he 's so used to the old songs, for me last night it didn't matter that I'd heard them so many times before. "Limbo", "Cruel" , TTOIA, "Shame, Shame" and "I thoughT" were also thrilling. I always think though that a big part of one's enjoyment of any show is where one sits. I'm glad I avoided the mellee at the front, the RAH is not a good venue for standing/dancing unless they were to take all the Arena seats out completely. # Philip ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html US ticket sale info: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ (updated weekly) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Oct 2002 09:44:36 +0100 From: "Tracy Elliott" Subject: RE: [AVALON] RAH Review Part Two Jonathan Wonderful review. Well Richard sounds like you had a great night!!!!! to be quite honest I don't think Ferry has ever struck a rapport with an audience. I've always found that to be one of his great weaknesses... Shame when you think of the loyal following he has had over many years.........on the other hand Saw "one guy" in concert this year he chatted in-between songs.....talked about the songs.......laughed and joked with the audience.....made you feel appreciated also made for a great night. Maybe Ferry could take a lesson or two from him. Or maybe after all these years its to much to ask. Colin and Lucy was jamming across the stage all night. Mick Green was superb, adding real guts to Lets' Stick Together, I was straight in front of Mick both nights, I managed to get his plectrum at the RAH. It was great to meet quite a few people on the list, (Goodie, Sorry I didn't get to meet you) especially John Dillon (or Dylan) and M from the USA, As well as Pauline, Mandy, Martin, Nigel, Tracy , Chris Cassidy,Chris Turner, and Diane at Birmingham, who we had to shove a couple of drunken girly dancer out of our way at Birmingham. I thought the opening worked quite well, especially The Only Face and Carrickfergus, the vocals were superb. At Birmingham, I was wondering if the rush to the stage was ever going to happen as I was ready at the start of TTOIA, Once I had my elbow on the stage, the sound was very fuzzy and over my head, although in the same position at RAH, the sound was superb. Great to hear Cruel, Nobody loves me, Tokyo Joe, Limbo, and a great end to the night with I Thought, always remind me of Eno's Some Far Away Beach. I hope I haven't missed anything different or too special at RAH Tues night, and looking forward to Nottingham, Leicester and Manchester If I had one wish...The In Crowd would top the tour for me, we can live in hope. For those of you who had there photo took on the Irish Bar before the show (You know who you are) please e-mail me off list and I will send you the photo, and a surprise photo of the man himself at the RAH. It was great to meet you all. Regards, Mark Date: Tue, 8 Oct 2002 15:59:05 EDT From: Stevesiren@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] RAH, RAH, Disputing? Birmingham or RAH? I'd vote for Brum, although the two setlists were identical I felt the crowd & atmosphere were more "electric" at the NIA. A big dissapointment I never got to hear "Just Like You", but the real big highlight on this tour for me is Mick Green's guitar playing, he breathes life into "LST" which hasn't been there since the IYM tour. "Cruel" is another fine example of his (& Spedding's) playing. Am I the only one who feels "Smoke Gets.." would sound better with TGPT? "Shame , Shame, Shame" moves & flows like a walrus on vaseline...."I Thought" is a perfect end.
