There will be a delay in getting out the show. It is being remastered to turn down the bass and also there was a skip that I thought was fixed and was not. I do not have a time frame for this so I do hope it comes through. My Fault, I am truly sorry for the delay. Hi Philip, I was not attacking Colleen, I was just making an observation. The fact that Colleen has decided not to respond to this mail, probably suggests that she also saw it as just an observation. When all is said and done, a little strong debate does entertain, but that is all it is, entertainment. Mark, knows this; and judging by his on-list reply appreciates that everyone is different, and everyone has different musical tastes/idea's. Me personally, I regard IYM as a poor album, not only because of the cover, but because the songs, to me, just don't jell. They all just sound the same. If I was forced to pick, what I regarded as the best song on this album, then I would pick the title track. Now "The Bride.." I like this album. Maybe because it has a bit of everything; R 'n' B, Blues, rock, jazz, etc. This is probably also the reason why I like "As Time Goes By" and all the rest of his solo work. They all encompass a wide spectrum of musical moods/tastes. FRANTIC: Has a very similar sound to IYM. Very little musical scope. Also a few very bad sounding cover versions. In total, it has that rushed, raw unfinished feel to it. Personally, the best songs on FRANTIC, are the collaborations with Dave Stewart. To me, Bryan Ferry is not a rock musician. He is more a soft ballads singer, especially later in his musical carreer. But even in the early Roxy recordings, there is the sense that the balladeer in him is trying to escape. This comes across fairly obviously in a few early Roxy songs. This is probably the reason why he decided early in his musical career to have a seperate, solo career to that of Roxy Music. By recording solo albums, this enabled him to have a greater scope of freedom with which to express his own personal feelings, through the interpretation of the songs he liked/listened to during his youth. Songs that held memories for him. Now, these are just my own opinions/thoughts, and I know many other people will have different opinions, but this is why I like BRYAN FERRY and ROXY MUSIC. As to the reason why I regard the album "Flesh and Blood" highly, this is due to the fact that this was the period in my life where I started to pay attention to the music I was listening to, and it was just that little "something" about hearing Oh Yeah, playing on the radio during the early summer of 1980, that got me hooked on ROXY MUSIC, above all other bands at that time. And here I am twenty-two years later, still listening to the man, but I do have favourite albums above others. Not everything he has done appeals to me. That's that life, I guess. Michael NP. Actually, I was just too busy to respond to it yesterday, and after Philip responded I thought he'd pretty much made the points that needed to be made. I also didn't respond since what you wrote was rude and I didn't feel the need to be rude in return. But thank you for attempting to read my mind. Furthermore, and as a point of clarification, when I wrote my comments I was speaking as a list member who was growing rather weary of dull and silly "my favorite singer is better than your favorite singer"/"oh yeah?" debates. Excuse me, "debates." > When all is said and done, a little strong debate does entertain, but > that is all it is, entertainment. > Mark, knows this; and judging by his on-list reply appreciates that > everyone is different, and everyone has different musical tastes/idea's. A strong debate does entertain, but slinging insults and saying over and over again that one album or singer is superior to another is not a debate, weak or strong. And it's about as useful--and entertaining--as sports fans chanting the names of their teams over and over. > To me, Bryan Ferry is not a rock musician. He is more a soft ballads > singer, especially later in his musical carreer. Yes, I often confuse later Bryan Ferry recordings with those of Barry Manilow. > But even in the early Roxy recordings, there is the sense that the > balladeer in him is trying to escape. This comes across fairly obviously > in a few early Roxy songs. I think what comes through is that the glam movement had two sides to it: a raucous rock'n'roll side, and a ballad side. My God, every dismal hair band from the 1980s put out a ballad or two; why should one genre of song preclude ever attempting any other type?
