Back in 1973, BF must have been one of the very best lyricists around. The vocal performance is brillant throughout, with all the modulations so that it never makes the repetitive backing (with lots of shiny embellishments, however) boring. If a songwriter has written a piece such as this, the question is: how could it get any better? BTW, I loved KBP's interpretative piece. A very interestaing take. The reworking from the 90s is OK, but the originla is much, much better. There was no need to do a new version when the original is impossible to surpass, IMO. Soetemann" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Bryan and Katie? translation A loose translation of the BUNTE article David has posted from 'bloody' German into English. I have to say that BUNTE is a very low-brow society 'magazine' which normally seems to fill its columns by musing on Boris Becker's affairs etc. Just to get your expectations on the right level, you'll easily see they are fulfilled... CHS Bryan Ferry is being regarded as a family man, a perfect husband, a loving father. But now his wife Lucy announced the split after 20 years of marriage. He has got the image of the cultivated seducer. A gentleman. Always dressed perfectly, with polished shoes and manicured hands. BRYAN FERRY (56) (ROXY MUSIC), the world's most refined popstar. Clean like his outward appearance is his lifestyle: married for 20 years with society lady LUCY HELMORE (42), father of four children. But all at once, Ferry's quiet life goes awry: First, his son ISAAC, 17, was thrown out of the elite school Eton because he posted insulting e-mails to a hunter (sic!). His other son OTIS, 19, was arrested because he mounted pro-hunt posters on the property of the British prime minister. And now, the pop star is amidst the pieces of his marital happiness with Lucy. After 20 years, the couple separated. Hamburg, late May. There, BUNTE met the charming pop star for an interview about his latest album titled "Frantic". Present during the conversation: a young English woman with the angel-like features of a model. Her name: KATIE TURNER. She filmed the meeting for a Ferry DVD. Back then, BUNTE asked the singer for his approaching 20th wedding anniversary. He answered sarcastically: "Oh yes? Thanks for reminding me." And he described the secret of his marriage: "Tolerance. Somebody living with me has got to be tolerant." That sounded strange. Last week, his wife Lucy talked turkey during her Italy holiday: "We have drifted apart." She has been tolerant for 20 years. In the 80s, she got away her husband from his drug addiction, supported him lovingly, when he was in psychological treatment for depression. And she forgave him extramarital slips, which were rare anyway for Ferry, compared to other pop stars. This boundless sympathy had to be paid tribute for: nine years ago, Lucy was in a clinic for treatment of alcohol addiction for nine weeks. Bryan Ferry hasn|t got any time for sadness. He travels to many concerts, for example on the 31st of August on the Koenigsplatz in Munich. Always present: pretty KATIE. In case she doesn't hold a camera, she is on stage with Bryan Ferry - sometimes as dancer, sometimes as background singer. It is already being rumoured that she serves as soul comfort as well. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html US ticket sale info: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ (updated weekly) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2002 13:34:58 +0100 From: "thom.wallace" Subject: [AVALON] Two steps forward, one step back. Well if the setlist from last nights show is anything to go by it's two steps forward and then one step back again. I welcome the addition of The Thrill Of It All and Limbo, but to drop Sign Of The Times not such good news. As I presume this was a shortened set for the occasion I would hope that it will make it's return for the rest of the tour. One would really hope that time was found during the month off the roas that time was taken to rehearse more that two new songs, the jury is still out on the choice of seltlist for this tour. Set List: The Thrill Of It All, It's All Over Now, Baby Blue, Can't Let Go, Oh Yeah, My Only Love, Both Ends Burning, Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, Limbo, Slave To Love, Virginia Plain, Jealous Guy, Let's Stick Together, Love Is The Drug, Do The Strand Thanks to vivaroxymusic.com for the setlist. No one had any news as the tour has been on hiatus for a month and resumed yesterday in Germany (the webcast that was broadcast yesterday).
