My Dear Jeanne Louise: We had this discussion no later than yesterday. It's elementary - Que sera, sera! Finally, you may remember that Mrs. Ferry has always been tight lipped about the Ferry's private affairs. That she recently broke rank with this practice is without precedence. Does that tell you anything? Eliminate the obvious... Best wishes. Do you really think it's wise to be crowing on about who the wrong party is (if there is indeed a wronged party in this situation) based on reading one newspaper article? There are a lot of details that haven't been published yet--common sense might tell us all that--and ringing moral declarations of whose fault this all is may soon prove to be the basis of a large humble pie to be consumed later. In fact, if I were you I'd start dieting now since it's almost inevitable in this case. Either way I don't think it's the purpose of this list to vilify Lucy Ferry or to engage in base speculation about anyone's motives, especially as we have zero facts at hand with which to buttress our nastiness. (Special note to Mr. Firmin so he doesn't mangle my comments out of context in other fora: I do not say this because I seek any sort of official sanction for this mailing list from Ferry management. As I've said before, I have no wish for this list to become a public relations mouthpiece. I say this because I belive it's common courtesy and basic human decency.) By the way, Mr. Deagle, since you've joined this list a few weeks ago, you've joined in on a list flamewar, felt compelled to share a racial slur, and generally (with only one exception I can recall) joined in on a conversation regarding the purpose of this list: the music of Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music. So how about it? What's your favorite album? song? first Roxy/Ferry concert? thoughts on last year's reunion? &tc.? The musical world of Roxy/Ferry is your oyster--take your pick. I'm happy to take the censure & appologise to whomever if it's true. You might also note my remarks about Love War being my current fave, & You Can Dance being a close second, followed by what I'd been able to decypher of the lyrics & a call for anyone on the list to fill in the blanks. It was MY understanding that people were free to make comments /observations on this list as we see fit. My observation: for a very private couple, (for show folk) Ms F has been talking to the press alot. There must be a reason for this new development. Draw your own conclusions if you don't like mine. AND thanks for the invitation to share my thoughts. My oyster is working on a pearl (perhaps baroque & mis coloured) for the near future. I would have sent this off list, but I think 1 & 2 above needed comment. Bryan's life is inextricably linked with the body of work. Would he have achieved the velvet lushlife of Avalon without trying to musically emulate (arguably at great personal cost)the chemical pleasuredome of heroin. More than this, he thought, I know there's nothing. Would we have the edgy rush of Siren without the Bolivian marching powder. Its too late the rush is on, indeed. Post Jerry he really suffered, it's well documented, and he found some solace hellbent on a life between the lines. I can recommend the book Black Vinyl White Powder by Simon Napier Bell to Avalonions interested in the pervasive influence of drugs in virtually all of rock'n'roll. One of Napier Bell's observations sticks in my head, and may have some relevance here. When a rock star talks about being "clean these days", he says, it is always code for having kicked horse and not an affirmation of a drug-free lifestyle. I'd bet he's settled down QUITE a bit. However, I do love your above comment. It's very true. I was around Guns N Roses after they "cleaned up" from heroin. I guess it was code for "now the girlfriend carries it." Tracy Lords used me for a shield while she snuck them something powdery out of a bag from her purse. Then after the show at a bar, they were eating handfuls of pills and drinking gallons of booze. (I have to confess it was a great night.) I was around Dave Mustaine once while he was cleaning up. I shook his hand across a table. He forgot to release it. And he wasn't being flirty. He FORGOT. I was told later he was doped on methodone. Yup, they're all cleaned up all right. For those of us who will be attending (regardless - because we're slightly nuts) - would anyone be interested in sharing the cost of a "COF" basic membership at $60 Canadian? If we can get 6 people attending willing to do this - we'd all get better tickets, and the cost would be $10 CDN per person in addition to regular ticket prices. Therefore would the following people stand up and be counted (either for or against): Anyone in southern Ontario, and anyone thinking about attending Toronto show. You know who you all are! We'd have to move fairly quickly on making a decision to do this - so stop thinking about this weekend's BBQ and start thinking about things to do on a cold November evening in Toronto!
