BF sometimes mutters in interviews that there's roughly a couple of albums worth in the can for release if he shuffled off this mortal coil tomorrow. From the past kindness of Chris, Tom and many others, the following titles spring to mind: Horoscope: Your Love Has Died, Midnight Train, Blinded By The Life I'm Living/The Death of Me Alphaville: Love War (which seems like a Holy Grail for Avalonians lucky enough to have heard it), Alphaville, Frantic, You Can Dance (perhaps one of Bryan's less autobiographical numbers), I Don't Want To, Couldn't Get It Right The Complete Bob Dylan Songbook (in 25 leatherbound folio volumes) I wonder if there's stuff from the Mamouna and Taxi sessions (ie, Goodnight Irene) still lurking? Including the encore, the set was one hour and ten minutes (approx). Just two songs (the Dylan covers) from Frantic, why doesn't he do It Ain't Me Babe as well and be done with it? Bryan, it's too short! Anyone who braved the hail and thunder at Old Trafford Cricket Ground for Bowie will know how lucky we were with the weather and the scenic views last night (I didn't take pix but I can send anyone a scan if they want to see the rural setting of the concert from an official leaflet) AND how easy it is for an artist enjoying their best reviews in years to successfully introduce new material to a set list without losing the fervour of the crowd's support. In Ferry's case, he could do Ja Hons Non Pris (instead of Tara?), Fool For Love, I Thought, Goddess of Love and a good couple more without replacing any other songs at all and perform a more satisfying length of concert. Never mind the quality, feel the width, you might ask? No, I'd be happy with a short set if it didn't feel like such a rushed through canon of Roxy hits (songs are noticeably speeded up) rather than a designed device to promote the solo career (which surely it oughta be?). There's not a song in the show I don't like, but overfamiliarity breeds contempt. PS Note for trivia fans, the singer/dancers didn't dance in Crans-sur-Nyon, Switzerland, so this was the first time I saw the return of the go-go dancers during Both Ends Burning and the Roxy feather dancers for Do The Strand. Probably the finest thing Ferry's produced since For Your Pleasure, Like Daniel mentioned it reminds me very much of Warm Jets, one of my favourite Eno albums, there's something very special about the Ferry-Eno combination, its deep rooted, they have an almost mystical genius when they work together. Lets hope this won't be their last collaboration.
