Sounds like some of the girls I encountered in Edinburgh on 1 June. They had drinks in their hands and were jumping up and down and screaming. They were trying to push through to the front shouting "excuse me, excuse me, excuse me". Now, those who have met me know that I'm not that tall and these girls were tall. I turned around to one of them an said "I don't think so!". The other one tried to push by and I just stood there as close to the people next to me as I could and stopped her getting through. They soon got bored because no one would let them through, and they went away - thank god! If they had got in front of me I wouldn't have been able to see much let alone take any photographs (which are still online at http://www.roxyferry.ic24.net). They were obviously drunk! You must have picked the black spot of the entire venue. Is there a history of a drunken haunting at Crathes does anyone know? You should have been where we were, it was all bonhomie and the band getting a genuinely warm rapturous reception. >The one thing that affected me most about the whole experience was the demon, drink!! if they'd been allowed to bring their own, then what they could carry would have limited consumption. I've seen Scottish dwarves carrying tankers of McEwans Export on their backs, so that might not have worked! >all of a sudden something came over me and I turned 'round and punched my fist into my hand inches away from one of the women's face! Confucius say, never ever stick your fist in someone's face unless you're either a) mental or b) can follow up, otherwise it's a wee trip to the dental nurse for you young lady. >The irony of it all as I later discovered was that the band thought they'd had a rapturous reception, when it was really only down to so many people being completely out of it. Again, I'm really sorry you were in the wrong spot, but Edinburgh was far more drunken and deadly, with Ferry being assaulted left right and centre by very drunk lassies which tested his patience to the absolute limit. Yes the band though they received an amazing reception, because they did. Certainly it didn't go unnoticed (or unmentioned) that there was a real party going on down the front left. Even the gaggle of photographers gave up photographing the band and turned their attention to the fun at the front. So, in conclusion, a couple of tips for forthcoming gigs: Find a couple of big strong lads before curtain up, use all your charms to chat them up into being your personal bouncers for the evening. Avoid anyone taking more steps backwards than they are forward. Understand that most people aren't sad bastards like us who go to every gig and have actually gone out with the intention of having a really good time regardless. Practise crowd management at a few football matches first where you're more likely to have someone pee in your pocket or get a flying Dimple Haigh bottle in the back of the head, then anything will seem sedate in comparison. Finally petition the promoters to never use a security firm as inept as Rock Steady to police your gigs. You all get home safely you hear? A lighted cigarette held at face level is very effective at helping others keep their distance. I have a friend who would buy cigs just for *crowd control*. Smoking is banned at indoor venues so it's no help there now, but it did work. The Goggans rules apply: 1. Be willing to send one good-quality blank and a SASE for your copy and a note telling me what you sent for this show. 2. Be one of the first three people to reply to this offer. 3. Tell me whether you will be continuing this offer. 4. Reply by Thursday, July 4. . 5. Understand that if you don't hear back from me, you must take my silence as a polite apology, that you were not one of the first three. (But you have nothing to lose in trying!) 6. Reply to me, and not the list. That would be silly.
