But of all of Bowie's work, I would rate those two as my least favorite. Two of my favorite Bowie albums of recent years are Black Tie White Noise and Outside. Nobody ever mentions those albums and if I remember correctly the reviews for both were mixed. But I consider both superb recordings and I have no idea what the man himself thinks of them. And if I read that he disliked them both, it would not change my opinion of them. So I know where you are coming from.
