I heard last night and was stunned into silence. I really can't see how Pete and Roger can carry on as The Who. Keith and John were such a vital ingredient to the Who sound, and although they managed to do a good job after the death of Moon, there's no way that they'll ever get close to the sound of the Who without Entwistle. Now that`s the proper way to raise future Ferry fans! LOL I work at school, and all my students know I`m a big fan of Mr. Ferry. Of course they were interested not only to hear some of his music, but also watch some live shows. (I`m grateful to Terry L. from this list who brought me a couple of videos and I could show them in the classroom.) However, I see your point about Ferry with a cigarrette on the cover - the same happened when we watched the video where he was smoking a cig on Do The Strand. I had to tell the kids he was only pretending he was smoking. Do you think little white lies are ok? ;) Take care, Irena (in Latvia) _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jun 2002 13:37:11 +0100 From: "Andy (Hotmail)" Subject: [AVALON] BF picture in Times Goodwood supplement today Can anyone spot him? Ironic huh? And not far away is good old Jools Holland. Who else can you recognise? It reminds me of the old Wings, "Band On The Run" LP cover. For those of you who can't see the pic I'll have a go later at scanning it in (it'll have to be in sections as it's a full tabloid page size advert) and see if we can't get John "viva" O'Brien to host it at those wonderful webpages of his. I've been messing around with some Bryan Ferry/Roxy singles, > trying to record them on my computer to put on cd. Andy McFadden's CD-Recordable FAQ has a section on cleaning up audio before writing them to CD, using Syntrillium's CoolEdit software: http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq03.html#S3-12-3 I tried it a long while back, seemed to work okay for reducing noise in general, but I didn't have great results trying to manually remove large pops from the audio stream. Perhaps others are more familiar with the program and can offer tips. You can request a demonstration CD of the software here: http://www.syntrillium.com/cep/demoorder.html I believe the demo will add certain watermarking tones to your music (to encourage you to buy the full retail version). A personal aside... I found the 1973 cd fantastic. Not the best quality but not bad either. The song selection is excellent, and apparently this was recorded prior to or just as Stranded was coming out. Bryan keeps saying "here's a song you haven't heard yet"... Good, fresh stuff! Sydney is fine, too. There are currently 1 second gaps between songs, and if I have some time this weekend, I will go through and remove them. I have had great success running through Soundforge v4.5. There's a couple of basic filters in there that help with hiss. Both Pete Seely and Ivor Canning have received CDs I've done this way - so ask them if they sound OK. With enough hookups, it's a great way to turn those old tapes into CDs as well - but I'm all out of In/Out jacks on the back of my receiver. And - I'm not listening to Heathen - but think I might pick it up on the weekend - you lot are giving it enough good reviews that it might be the first Bowie album in over 10 years that I'm actually going to buy. And WHY does my local radio station think playing "Let's Dance" instead of "Heathen" is a brilliant way of advertising the new album?
