Date: Thu, 20 Jun 2002 05:44:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Joel Hurd Subject: [AVALON] Ferry #1 chart Album ? >What does it take for BF to have a #1 album in the US charts? Well, the realist's answer would be a minimum 250,000 copies sold in one week. So what you want to know is what Bry would have to do in order to sell a quarter of a million copies of his album in the same week. (snip) >So, how would BF get a top ten US album, without >resorting to 'cheap' >tactics like Ozzy's 'reality sitcom'? :-) That "cheap" tactic still didn't net Ozzy a top 10 record. That show got enormous weekly audiences -- the largest in MTV history for a regular show - -- and the Osbournes Family Album entered at #13 (or 12?) with 60,000-odd sales. David Bowie entered a few places behind, with 55,000-odd sales and a wave of TV appearances and fabulous critical reviews. Bear in mind that the most successful Bry's ever been in the US was in 1979, when the Manifesto tour was playing to packed houses, several of the dates were broadcast by FM stations, the band's image and influence brought them enormous street cred among the NYC/LA media looking for "new wave" acts to write about in the spring of 1979, coupled with the bubbling emergence of college radio DJs looking for new music. That was as big as the band got in the USA, and it was pretty big indeed considering, and Manifesto still didn't make the top 20. - --Grant _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia/meetup.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jun 2002 13:02:11 -0700 From: "David Firmin" Subject: [AVALON] mp3 Strange Ferry item on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=887551992 Total Time 08 h. 17min. We have two girls aged 8 & 9. They have now taken a serious liking to this album and know practically all the words. They sing along on the way to school and so do the day care kids! My older daughter had me print out the lyrics (courtesy of vivaroxymusic.com) and took them to school with my copy to play for her class! The kids all liked what they heard (Cruel and Fool for Love). The teacher was a bit perplexed by it all having never heard of Bryan. The Frantic cover is probably not the best to show to a young school class with Bryan smoking and all. Nevertheless, my girls are really taken to the album. Their favorites are: Arianna (9): San Simeon Fool for Love Cruel Its All Over Now, Baby Blue I Thought Alyssa (8): Cruel Nobody Love Me I should also mention how much they enjoyed As Time Goes By. Some of those standards are truly timeless. I plan to soak their brains with more Bryan and Roxy on our 3-week camping trip across the Southwest U.S. in July. They have insisted we take them to the next concert..and so we will! Just passing it along.
