Just to remind everyone, some of us sweltering southerners will be meeting at the Rio Bravo in Buckhead here in humid Hotlanta on Saturday, June 29 for fun and conversation and probably a few drinks. I also need a head count so's I know how many copies of somethin' to burn, so while unannounced guests at the table are more than welcome -- unless you're the Fulton County PD telling us we're too loud -- you need to let me know if'n you want your gift. Looking forward to it! He followed Marianne Faithful (who has a lot of nerve to get up in front of 4-5,000 people and do that). He arrived onstage at 11.50pm, making me think he might insert Midnight Hour, and played for 1 hr 15 mins coming off stage at 1.05 this morning. He played the following (apols for any omissions, order may be ever so slightly out, but it is near as damn it): It's All Over Now Baby Blue Sign Of The Times Can't Let Go Oh Yeah Out Of The Blue Don't Think Twice It's All Right Both Ends Burning Dance Away Tara Slave To Love A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Love Is The Drug Virginia Plain Jealous Guy Let's Stick Together Encore...Do The Strand Think that is about it. Yep, the two Dylan covers were the only songs from Frantic, despite a Euro single of One Way Love due anytime now. The balance is definitely in Roxy4s favour...more observations when I get back to UK. Best wishes Richard Mills PS Not a drop of rain in sight. Warm summer evening/morning, too. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Avalonians on tour 2002: http://web.tiscali.it/cecilya/roxy/meetup.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Jun 2002 23:25:43 -0400 From: "Maggie Curran" Subject: Re: [AVALON] A solution to the "Topic" debate The Registration Office at Newcastle U's off-campus program has just announced that all places in all classes for Doctor of Roxymusicology are filled. Officials attribute the "sell-out" nature of the Roxy- musicology Doctorate program to the high level of interest in the subject matter. No doubt the program will be expanded as soon as the services of other distinguised Roxymusicology scholars such as Professors H. James, Snijders and Shockley can be successfully negotiated. It sounds like a Ferry album to me, alright. And a good one! The packaging -well, the cover is well dodgy IMO, but the booklet is OK. But.... since I listened to Frantic I too have gone back to Mamouna... over and over... and love it far more than I ever did before. In fact before I would have said I only liked the title track! And I was hoping for big, big sales from Frantic. C'est la vie. Don't suppose BF's on the breadline. And if he ever got *seriously* rich, he'd stop making records and touring ! You know, I really like the record, some of the songs are quite superb..... "its all over", "cruel", and others but as a whole I feel its lacking that Ferryesque quality that one can not quite pin down. Maybe its too diverse, maybe its the length of time it took to create , maybe even , dammit, the packaging. I listened to Mamouna the other day and recognised the wistfulness of the thing. Compare and contrast, maybe I prefer Ferry when he's miserable. I must admit I expected Frantic to sell better. Wishful thinking, eh? Greetings all... I'll make this relatively short. I'm a new fan of only about a year and a half. The only CD I have is the Roxy/Ferry compile Streetlife. Last year as I was leaving the amphitheatre after Yes Symphonic, I saw on the billboard "Roxy Music tomorrow night". I wasn't able to go, now I'm kicking myself. Will I ever get to see either Roxy or Ferry do Avalon AND More Than This AND Jealous Guy live....all three? I'm surprised that More Than This isn't on the new DVD? Did Roxy do it in concert on that reunion tour? I thought it was one of the favorites that they would have to do?
