You know, I really like the record, some of the songs are quite superb..... "its all over", "cruel", and others but as a whole I feel its lacking that Ferryesque quality that one can not quite pin down. Maybe its too diverse, maybe its the length of time it took to create , maybe even , dammit, the packaging. I listened to Mamouna the other day and recognised the wistfulness of the thing. Compare and contrast, maybe I prefer Ferry when he's miserable. I must admit I expected Frantic to sell better. Wishful thinking, eh? "I like the song, it's just that I found most live versions more compelling than the studio version which sounds so dry, processed and clostrophobic. I know what you mean about that Ferry stare as he performs live. I love the New Town version where he clutches the lapels of his jacket as if he was cold, hiding in a dark rainy alleyway round the corner from some seedy joint." I have a distinct memory of the show Bryan did in Glasgow on this tour. At the end of Dreamhome he said "Takes you back, Huh?" I remember turning to my partner and saying "It certainly does" or words to that effect. Also at the show that night there were notices on display saying "This performance is being filmed and your attendance means permisson is given blah, blah, blah. You know the kind of thing I mean. Well, when New Town was released it said it was filmed in Paris (I think?) Is my "oldtimer" memory being selective and hazy or am I correct? Did Bryan say "Takes you back, Huh?" at the end of every performance of Dreamhome on that tour? Paris may seem a bit more exotic (in a marketing sort of way!) than Glasgow but was it filmed in Glasgow for the reknowned Roxy/Ferry audience response? The truth must be told! Good one Jocelyn! I claim the Moth - Ferry and Footy are consecutive folders in my "Favourites". And I wore my NUFC shirt to the Detroit Roxy show last year - BF leaned down and asked the score on the Bayern Munich vs NUFC - 3-1 to the bad guys, unfortunately. Personally, I think the Viva! version is much better even if it is not a true live version. Perhaps I like the heavier feel to it thanks to Paul Thompson. Conversely, I have alway thought that Bogus Man sounded better on FYP , particularly the second half of it...which sounds much better through headphones....a progressive track as it was then which I thought never transalated well live. I'm back from seeing Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy open for Ben Folds. It was just Neil and his guitar and he was amazing!!!! I have to see him again live. Chicago at the end of the month? Galway, Ireland in July (with string quartet and maybe bad weather as per my dream)? Hmmm.... After he was done, I was out of there. I couldn't deal with the Ben Folds fans nor did I want to see him perform. My friend and I waited for Neil afterwards. I had to meet him so that I could give him a present for his baby daughter. We were the only ones waiting for him but he came out and I dashed after him. (Good track record to date with meeting him.) He opened the present and said that his daughter enjoyed my other present (that I gave to him in Chicago in February). We chatted and I took more pictures with him. I love Bryan but I really really love Neil and I have quite a soft spot for him. They're my two fave singers. How was that even remotely on-topic? TDC covered "Oh Yeah"..... And Neil was off to bed so that he can get up at 7:30 AM to watch football on ESPN. I have to be off to bed so that I can go to work. One last thing - my friend flew in from New Zealand (she's going to grad school there) and gave me Lord of the Rings stamps. I love the stamps. Woooo! Nite nite! My favorite interpretation of The Bogus Man is by Avalonian Mats Andersson (especially around Christmas ;-). ) I think the Viva version is as good or better than on FYP, pretty scary, would have loved to see his expressions. I never tire of any rendition of IEDAH. Seems to be the Roxy song most covered by other artists. Trouble is, most of these "artists" are close to unlistenable as far as I'm concerned. That makes me think, anyone got any favorite or hated covers of RM/BF? I'd have to pick the Divinyl's Love is the Drug as most hated. Favorite? Maybe the Loud Family's RMRM--quelle hommage!. Weirdest? Gotta be Jimmy Scott's Slave to Love.
