Well, no actually. Working with Roxy has not prevented ANY of the members doing solo work. And, of course, the albums with Bowie were produced while Roxy were taking their break between Siren and Manifesto so Eno would have been eminently free. Of course, that damn butterfly keeps beating its wings and the weather changes on the other side of the planet. But I didn't actually say Eno should have stayed with Roxy, just that no-one ever filled his shoes as convincingly ever again... It did not gel at all. Lucy's face looked like fizz all the way through and there was none of the chemistry that was so evident when she played with Andy. All in all, I think it was bad judgement to have put that piece in, when it had so recently been done (and so memorably). I kept comparing the two versions as it was being played...this one did not even come close. The adjective of the week to describe this should be 'wooden'!! I'm not having a pop at Lucy here, it's just that I think the saxophonist (Ian Dixon?)is not in the same league as Andy. Unlike the Lucy and Andy combo, there was no synergy. Maybe, it'd be better to leave this piece out...? To put the record straight about the reserved seating- I noticed afterwards that ALL of the middle section had been reserved!! This explains why all of us Avalonians ended up with such crap seats! Even Jim Lawn was sat in one of the side sections; so that just shows you!! Anyway we got down to the front, so it was relatively academic in the end!! BTW for the record, Tara apart, I thought it was a good concert! Enjoyed meeting up with fellow list members again- thanks for the badge, Alan! Cheers, Diane P.S. Virginia Plain, Do The Strand, Love Is The Drug, Out Of The Blue, Both Ends Burning... ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 2002 10:24:15 EDT From: Go2Sweeney@AOL.COM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Spanish article All very clear-who can translate that then (I never had any Spanish lessons), Goodie ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 2002 16:59:21 +0200 From: "S Thomsen" Subject: [AVALON] Norfolk 88 tree, repost. However, I can tell you that it is a quite positive review of the Estoril show. The reviewer is surprised that only three songs from Frantic are presented. "Don't Think Twice" is saluted as a "magnificent exercise for voice, piano and harmonica," and unsurprisingly, that "Slave to Love" got the most applause. The dancers' addition of "glamour" is commended, Lucy is described as a competent and showy violinist, and the reviewer finds Speddo to be a curious cross between a rockabilly stereotype and a character from a David Lynch western.
