Some of you may be fans of The Onion (www.theonion.com) --- I love it. I've been inspired to write Onion-style news articles for another music list (I wrote an article entitled "Arnie not nominated for Commando - Man almost dies from shock" after we had a discussion about acting) and for this list. If you are mentioned in an article, I'll send it to you ahead of time for a preview. Nice break from trying my hand at horror writing. =) Enjoy! (Another article will be going out either today or tomorrow.) M 'Sticky Fingers' Ferry - Addicted to Sunglasses! By M England - Singer Bryan Ferry recently issued a statement, announcing that he has been attending Kleptomaniacs Anonymous meetings. On numerous occasions, Mr. Ferry has been caught stealing sunglasses. "It all started in August 2000," he confessed, "when someone threw a pair of sunglasses onstage. Normally, I ignore anything that fans throw onstage. For some reason, I picked them up and put them on. They felt really good on me and they were so nice-looking. I took them home and that was the start of my obsession." "I don't know what possessed me to do it," said Mr. Shearer, owner of the sunglasses. "It seemed like a good idea at the time." "I tried to retrieve them after the show, explaining that my friend had a muscle spasm," recounted Ms. Fiske. "It was an accident and he wanted his sunglasses back. The security guards wouldn't do anything about it. To top it all off, Bryan wore them during a photo shoot the following month. Of course we wrote letters to the magazine, claiming that the sunglasses didn't belong to him and he ought to return them." (Photo: http://vivaroxymusic.com/largeimages/2002bf6.jpg Caption: The pair that started it all) "Finders keepers, losers weepers. It may sound trite," explained Mr. Ferry in his response to the letters published in the magazine, "but it's quite true." Mr. Ferry's obsession with sunglasses grew steadily worse. Numerous complaints by fans have been lodged against the singer. "When I met him backstage one night after a show, he had the nerve to pluck my sunglasses off the top of my head," wrote Ms. O'Donnell. "I asked for them back but he refused to give them to me even though they were women's sunglasses. Then he walked off." Mr. O'Brien also fell victim to Mr. Ferry's sticky fingers. "I was standing in the front row at a concert and he reached over during the middle of a song and took my sunglasses from my shirt pocket. What was I suppose to do - stop the concert? I started a message board on my website and after talking to other fans, I realized that he's quite clever about it. He chooses moments when you can't do anything." "He stole my sunglasses when my wife and I ran into him at an airport early in the morning," fumed Mr. Watkins. "Bryan quickly stashed them into his carry-on bag. It was very upsetting because they were my favorite pair and expensive but my wife told me to keep quiet since we were both too tired for a confrontation. Surely the man has enough money to afford his own sunglasses. I have every intention of suing him; he can't get away with it." (Photo: http://www.vivaroxymusic.com/largeimages/bryanduncan.jpg Caption: Mr. Watkins grudgingly smiles after his sunglasses are stolen) Mr. Ferry's sunglasses collection has increased significantly during the past couple of years, featuring a wide range of styles and designers. "Honestly, we don't have any more room to store them," complained Mrs. Ferry. "He doesn't even wear most of the sunglasses. He bought display cases for them and he just stares at them." According to Mr. Smith, his group leader at Kleptomaniacs Anonymous, Mr. Ferry is making good progress. "He has resisted the urge to steal people's sunglasses several times. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to convince him to return the sunglasses that he has already taken. I strongly advise fans not to wear sunglasses around him to decrease the level of temptation." We wish Mr. Ferry all the best with his recovery process. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 13:48:19 +0100 From: "terrypaulrigz8c" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Goddess of Love single Tracy thats really interesting, as when the guy in Virgin checked on his computor he said that it wasn't in any Virgin stores anywhere!, How do they expect to get chart exposure if they don't get copies everywhere? "After 30 years, it's hard to keep the fans entertained," he explained in his press statement. "We had dancers for the Roxy Music reunion tour and that was quite spectacular. I didn't want to repeat myself so I decided to bring clowns and ventriloquists for this tour." Mr. Ferry is currently touring the UK. The shows incorporate several ventriloquists and their dummies, serving as back-up singers. At various points during the performance, clowns join the singer onstage and cavort around in the background. Clowns also mingle with the audience, performing various tricks and feats designed to delight the crowd. According to Mr. Ferry, it makes the shows more "interactive." The highlight of the concerts features a ventriloquist standing by the front microphone while the dummy sings "Jealous Guy," whistles included. It has been reported that at several shows, hordes of audience members fled the venue, screaming in terror, while others fainted. The fans interviewed had varying reactions. "I was so excited when I heard the news about the tour," blubbered Mr. Yates. "I wore a black leotard and white gloves to the Manchester show and mimed to each song. I'm certain that Bryan saw me because he chuckled a few times." Mr. Yates was thrilled with the balloon animal given to him by one of the clowns. (Photo: http://gallery.yimg.com/c/256wm/11291678.jpg Caption: Mr. Yates at the Manchester show) (Photo: http://www.balloonhq.com/photos/db/complete.php?id=5616 Mr. Yates' pride and joy) "I had dinner recently with two circus performers," said Mr. Meyers, an American fan who flew over to see a few of the UK concerts. "They are hardcore trapeze artists and hate clowns. I never knew that it was so cliquey in the circus. They pointed out that most serial killers in America were part-time clowns. Now Bryan should have had trapeze artists in the show. That's an idea." "I swear that I saw at least a couple of people in the audience who looked like they were serial killers from America," whispered Ms. Fiske. "Who ever thought that it could be dangerous going to a Bryan Ferry concert?" Ms. Fiske stated that she will have bodyguards escorting her to future shows. "Jeffrey Dahmer said that clowns tasted funny," joked Mr. Turner, much to the chagrin of the people around him. "I'm indifferent either way. I go to see Bryan and that's what counts." "Dude, clowns freak me out. I keep thinking of the scary clown in Stephen King's It. Ventriloquist dummies are exceptionally creepy," shuddered Mr. Shanahan, an American fan who read reviews about the concerts-to-date. "I hope he doesn't bring them when he comes here." (Photos: http://www.castlerocknet.com/secretwindows/it/it_us2.gif http://www.magicmagicmagic.com/Images/all.jpg Caption: Sources of Mr. Shanahan's fears) Ms. Porter has a differing opinion. "I hope he does bring the clowns and ventriloquists to the States. I enjoyed going to the circus when I was young and it would be the perfect fusion of a music concert and a circus. I refuse to go to a circus that doesn't have any proper clowns. Will they serve snacks during the show? I love cotton candy." At press time, Mr. Ferry declined to comment and his management would not confirm the line-up for the American leg of the tour. American fans, beware. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 10:38:20 -0500 (CDT) From: MarlanaK@webtv.net (M.M.K.) She cited an installation at the Lyon show as an example. The original setup, chockablock with speakers, wiring and software, wasn't working. Of course, the sales staff knew nothing about Frantic, but I didn't really expect them to. Should I wait 'til midnight to see if they put it out for sale? Judy PS And if Bryan Ferry isn't the handsomest man alive, I couldn't stand the sight of the one who is. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 23:39:26 -0500 From: "Judy Kaufman" Subject: Re: [AVALON] I just saw Bryan Ferry . . . >I would like to know where I can catch a glimpse of that, maybe on the internet? Greg, I haven't checked the Wal-Mart site; I saw this in the store. Do the UK Asda(?) stores have something similar? I know they are owned by Wal-Mart, but do they have their own chain-wide tv channel in-store? If so, did anyone see any BF promos? But Q magazine (June 2002) lists Bryan Ferry first in its file on artists living on borrowed time. Opining that Capitol?EMI/Virgin group is 'cash-strapped' and 're-structured', they look at the roster to decide who's in the firing line. Along with Kate Bush (9 years since her last album), Billie Piper and - sorry guys, David Sylvian - they have this to say about BF... "Signed to Virgin Germany for his last two albums. Could fall prey to the Europe-based cull that's occurred so far." S'funny. I always thought Bryan was a Europe-based cult...
