Frantic was released in Oz today.....I managed to get my copy fairly early in the day and it's been on in the car, at work and at home ever since! My own impression is that it's a fabulous piece of work - certainly one of Ferry's best, and I'm delighted to hear his brilliant voice up front. Great musicians backing him as well (as expected). In a word - GLORIOUS. Cheers, Scotty LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! There is no information on an intended single release here, and if that's the case, mainstream radio probably won't play the album tracks. Since only the DVD audio version (according to earlier news we received) gets the alternative Hiroshima mix, I guess they've released a stereo and not a multi-channel SACD. Or it's marketing gone mad. Ferry doesn't seem to know about it but doesn't deny it, though he does quite emphatically deny the rumour that Bowie asked him to appear in Blue Jean video. ("Liar!") It's a good article and there's some worthwhile music on the cover CD, too. Q has moved right away from the predictable and dusty "music for Radio 2 listeners" territory of the Mark Ellen years; where Ferry would once have made the cover, his name this month is not even mentioned. Never mind Eno, Ferry should do a Murder Inc collaboration with Tweet or Ashanti. That would suit the man who once said he'd be interested in a porn version of a Bond film - and the video would be interesting, too. ;) B ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 May 2002 16:53:53 +0100 From: Bahi Subject: Re: [AVALON] SACD and DVD-Audio Releases >This page indicates it is a hybrid, plus Virgin's other SACDs have all been >hybrids (AFAIK). So you could buy the SACD and play it in any CD player and later benefit from the amazing sound of SACD when you upgrade your music equipment; yet Virgin UK seemingly hasn't made it available. (Certainly when I enquired in a Virgin Megastore, the standard CD was the only item in stock and the only Frantic release to be listed on their computer.) Odd. > > I guess they've released a stereo and not a multi-channel SACD > >I hadn't considered that. That would be a major disappointment. It was only a guess, based on the Clearmountain Hiroshima mix not appearing on SACD. The value of guesswork based on these decisions - they appear to be arbitrary and leave me wondering about Virgin UK's reluctance to fully support Virgin Germany releases sometimes - is dubious. :) If anyone on the list has the SACD or DVD releases, I'd be very interested in hearing comments about the sound of the alternative Hiroshima mix, and whether there's a standard (studio) 2-channel mix on the SACD. Dunno where this info came from but it was reported. I know Frantic fell quite a few places in our national chart, and it was even worse in my local supermarket, Sainsburys, where it fell from 10 to 27. This might have something to do with the fact that, for most of the week it was no.10, they had no copies on the shelf. It was the only album in their top 30 to be represented by a blank space. More bummer. I'm surprised EMI haven't been more behind the album, after the success of the Roxy tour - or maybe it didn't do so well down under? How did the Greatest Hits album perform? Now ultra-rare in this form: The official Ferry site (which disappeared for a while earlier today) says, "We have just heard that the Roxy Music DVD has debuted at number 2 in the music video and DVD chart in the UK." I didn't know there was such a thing till today. Beaten by what appears to be "Cats - The Original Cast Recording", which (if I'm reading this chart correctly) has spent 82 weeks in the chart but had *no chart position whatsoever* last week. It's a conspiracy - Lloyd-Weber determined not to let Roxy top any chart, any time, however many copies of his own stuff he has it takes. (Or possibly the DVD version of Cats was released last week.) Also, Frantic is "up 21 places to number 37" in France, where it was doing notably worse than in much of the rest of mainland Europe.
