There are a few boots knocking around (and I've even compiled a similar thing myself) that collects together the various 1960s tracks that were performed live during 1999/2000 - Can't Help Thinking About Me, London Boys, I Dig Everything, plus his cover of Pictures Of Lily (recorded during the Toy sessions), Afraid (a 'live-in-the-studio' version was available to view on demand on BowieNet), Nature Boy from Moulin Rouge, Silly Boy Blue from the Tibet benefit show last year, America from the NYC benefit and a few other stray tracks. Bowie did promise that Toy would see the light of day somehow, and sure enough, at least two tracks on his new album are from that project (Slip Away, formerly known as Uncle Floyd and Afraid). And the bonus tracks on his forthcoming single include two Heathen outtakes, plus re-recordings of You've Got A Habit Of Leaving Me and Baby Loves That Way (the first Lower Third single from 1965) and a new recording of the oft bootlegged Hunky Dory/Ziggy leftover Shadow Man. A new version of Conversation Piece is also listed as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of Heathen. And whilst I'm on the subject, I received a copy of Heathen at the weekend. It sounds like it's from a badly recorded third generation cassette, but my goodness, this is a truly exceptional album. Some of Bowie's best songs in years and without doubt far superior to Frantic (and I'll argue that for as long as you like). It's like Hunky Dory meets Low/Heroes/Scary Monsters. Dave obviously learnt a valuable lesson with Hours... by writing the songs before getting in the studio, as they are very much "songs" and not the directionless ramblings of Outside and Earthling (not that they were crap, this is just better). Something special must happen when Dave gets together with Tony Visconti, so let's hope they do a few more whilst they're talking! BTW, there are three covers on the album - Cactus (the Pixies), I've Been Waiting For You (Neil Young) and Gemini Spacecraft (the Legendary Stardust Cowboy). Thank you for your time. ;-) SimonG ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 10:18:10 +0000 From: "=?iso-8859-1?B?SWduYWNpbyBQZXly8w==?=" Subject: [AVALON] No. 13 Frantic is no. 13 in Spanish charts. _________________________________________________________________ Descargue GRATUITAMENTE MSN Explorer en http://explorer.yupimsn.com/intl.asp. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 05:58:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Scotty Subject: [AVALON] Frantic in Australia Hello to everyone. Has anyone picked up the SACD or DVD-Audio release of _Frantic_? The major on-line stores that I've visited only list the UK CD release and the US-slated CD releases; thus, I'm not sure if the SACD and DVD-A discs have been released. I'll be traveling to NYC this week and would like to pick up _Frantic_ on these two formats (if they have been released), but I don't know where to look for them. If you have any recommendations for stores in the city that stock SACDs and DVD-As, please reply privately. Finally, I'm also looking for high-end audio shops (emphasizing in tube amplifiers and turntables/cartridges) and other interesting stops and shops in the city. If you have any suggestions, please drop me a line. Also, you all might be amused to hear that the Singaprean copy of the DVD has a Parental Guidance sticker on the sealed cover - I didn't think the underwear was that shocking!
