I was too impatient on the day to wait for the venue to return my call when they told me the tickets would be on sale on that day, but not yet - so I rang the central number. Got my tickets ( I hope!), but I was told it was standing only. I'd asked for as near the front as poss (don't we all?). Since heard that a couple of people have got their Leicester tickets and they are seated. Now I'm in a panic - that'll teach me to be so impatient. I've received other tickets which I ordered direct from the venues. Help!! Has this >been previously discussed? I assume it has and I just missed it. I thought it was a decent first draft. There were far too many basic errors (like the author thinking that Bryan's son Tara is a girl) and oddball logic (since when is a #21 single like "Don't Stop the Dance" a "flop"?), and the author doesn't seem to have found a point or direction to any of his facts or arguments. Something called a "cultural biography" should address both life and culture, but there is far too little honest discussion of Roxy's impact (or lack of, if you would choose that side) on culture, the charts, other musicians, and so on. Apart from the pre-Roxy history of each musician, any of which can be found in other sources ("Balfour," Lazell & Rees, any 1970s press release), there is very little discussion about the individuals' personal lives apart from what made the tabloids. Stump almost gets there when he discusses the rock media's turning on Ferry in the wake of ATAP, and this section was very readable indeed, but it left me with more questions than answers. It's astonishing that something with so many pages could say so little, but in its defense it does have a heck of a lot of facts in one place and is a good starting point, but I firmly believe that with more research, more work and more interviews, Stump could have come up with something very worthwhile. Oh, and the book's cover is apalling, but that's not Stump's fault and is just more evidence of me being a design snob. - --Grant _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 May 2002 15:37:22 +0100 From: "terrypaulrigz8c" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: avalon-digest V7 #157 - ----- Original Message ----- From: Grant Goggans To: Sent: Tuesday, May 07, 2002 1:35 PM Subject: [AVALON] Re: avalon-digest V7 #157 > (That said, I am very, very happy to see Frantic debut so high. This appears to be the full show, and runs for 80 minutes (like the 1979 Denver performance released as Concerto). One note about this which might affect your desire to get it from me: my software adamantly refuses to record more than 77 minutes onto a CD, and this is right at eighty, so it will take two CDs. I am offering four free copies of this show to the Avalon list. I'm expecting at least two of the people responding to commit that they will tree/weed/chain/B+P it on the Avalon list as well. *If you tell me that you will tree it and you fail to do so, then I will not copy for you again.* Please note that the requirement this time is that, if you tell me you will continue this show, you must continue it ON AVALON. If you want to spread a few copies in other lists or groups as well, that's fine, but I will expect the two (or more) "retree-ers" to make announcements on THIS list. If you would like a copy of this boot, you must: 1. Be willing to send two good-quality blanks and a SASE for your copy. 2. Be one of the first four people to reply to this offer. 3. Tell me whether you will be continuing this offer to Avalon. 4. Reply by Thursday, May 9. 5. Understand that if you don't hear back from me, you must take my silence as a polite apology, that you were not one of the first four. (But you have nothing to lose in trying!) 6. Reply to me, and not the list. That would be especially silly considering the reply-to. Also Bryan mentioned he had a very good string arranger, Rossy mentioned he had a very good plumber. I missed most of it, but it sounded a laugh. No doubt it's been taped here somewhere. Also Roxy got a mention in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. They played Love is the Drug at "Nev's" daughter's birthday party and the lascivious DJ thought she was too young to remember Roxy Music, she said it was her Dad who liked them. I suspect Jimmy Nail (a huge Roxy fan) had a hand in that one.
