Taxi went to Number 2, on the back of some good reviews and some decent singles, although it contained only cover versions. If Frantic can rise two more places, perhaps on the back of a good appearance on Later, it would become Bryan's third highest charting solo album ever. Not bad at 56, and further evidence of the recent renaiassance in his career. I spoke to Jim earlier this week, and they were very excited about Frantic's prospects, with some justification now. There might be some possibility of establishing a foothold in the higher reaches of the chart. At the moment, the only other established artist in the top 10 is C*l*ne Di*n. Rock mayflies Doves, the soap-dodgers current favourites, entered the chart at Number 1 this week, the only other new entry in the Top 10. Certainly the release of Goddess of Love will give the album a boost if it is a hit, followed by the summer dates followed by Baby Blue to give it another push and finally the autumn tour hopefully to keep it in the top 20 until Christmas. With all the talk of BFs retirement on the list. I personally think the last 2-3 years has been a very well thought out and executed master plan leading to the release of this album. It began with a nice gentle start with ATGB getting BF away from the studio hell he got himself embriolled in, in the early to mid 90s, then a complete change of track with the high profile Roxy Re-union, and now the Jewel in the Crown, a Fantastic commercial album and full tour. Long may he wear the Crown. I don't know who is his management mastermind but they are very good. First of all, just wanted to let you know that from now on I`ll be posting to this list from my new e-mail account which is roxyriga@hotmail.com. (So, that other Irena on the list will actually be me again!) Now to the point. Thank you everybody for your replies concerning Ferry`s interview on Latvian radio. Almost all of you were so close to the truth. Family, children, music, his wife, friends.... That`s right. THE CORRECT ANSWERS ARE: 1) WORK, 2) FAMILY, 3) BEING IN THE COUNTRYSIDE!! (I bet this last one was the most difficult....besides, it might easily have depended on his mood which values to put forward that day.) I`d love to send the tape to everyone on the list (especially if some people collect everything about BF/RM), but it`s quite impossible. Therefore I`ll send the tape to TRACY ELLIOTT, as the answers in my opinion were the closest (1-family, 2-music, 3-elixir of life/health; the correct order was not crucial anyway). Besides, I`d like to express my gratitude to Chris Turner and John O`Brien who have been providing us fans with the newest information, so I`d be glad to send the tapes to them, too (so that they can add them to their collections of BF/RM treasures). As he had already mentioned, he visited our capital city Riga last week, and he also kindly spent some time with me treating me to some live videos, tapes, newspaper cuts, magazines and a lot of other Roxy stuff from his Roxy collection box which he had brought along. Not to mention his invaluable comments on the songs. Then we went on a preaching mission to the school I work, and had two nice jointly conducted lessons during which my students questioned Terry about life in the UK. Asked if they`d like Terry to become their English language teacher they all unanimously agreed (we would obviously have to teach them in turns, as they weren`t quite ready to part with me either). Eventually the sweetest question of all came up, namely, Who`s your favourite singer? What a joy was for me to hear somebody announcing in front of the audience: The best singer in this world is Bryan Ferry. Then Terry asked them if they knew of anybody in Latvia who also liked this singer. What a sunny smile he had when 20 little hands pointed at me! Although, later (answering questions of Do you like....? type) he was made to confess he liked Britney Spears and Eminem too (gotcha, Mr. Lane!). No way out, being a gentleman he had to say it... Not to disappoint the little fellows... who enjoyed meeting him so much - as did their teacher. P.S. By the way Terry - loved your idea about turning our school into Bryan Ferry Academy! I`d have to become a first grade pupil though, but that`s alright anyway - as long as I can learn more about the subject. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 May 2002 07:41:25 -0400 From: "Grant Goggans" Subject: [AVALON] Looking for 1982-83 era Manzanera pics Hello!
